Should I give this a try?

My mom downloaded ChatGPT and she seems to love it. She can ask it anything and it will talk to her like a real person, giving her suggestions on things, helping her figure out what to do in certain situations, etc. Of course it doesn’t replace talking to a real person or even a therapist but it’s a start. Wondering if I should give it a try to help me with some issues that I’m dealing with. I’ve got panic/anxiety when I am in the car with other people or when I’m on a bus, especially if it’s way overcrowded. I never know when it will happen, how intense it will be, and if it will happen at all. I can’t even get myself to get on the bus if there are too many people on it. And forget about the express bus. I can’t even get on regardless of how many people are on it. Bees and wasps freak me out/scare me. If I see them I run. And I’m not ok if I see one of them in my house. I freak out and run away from the room and I can’t near it to try and kill it. Someone has to do it for me. On a few occasions last year my mom came to kill it. Before that it was hubby but now since he left me that’s not possible. I know ChatGPT alone is not a solution and I need to find a therapist, most likely a CBT one but it’s a start. To actually talk to someone I don’t know who to turn to. And I want it to be someone I can talk to in person. I don’t want someone just over the phone or video chat. Either way going to one is probably very expensive. My mom would have to pay for that as I can’t afford it.

Absolutely not. AI is dangerous. You'd think people would have learned that from Terminator 2

Guess you have to analyze what it tells you and judge for yourself if the info is accurate or not.

I really recommend one of those online therapists that you don’t have to see in person if you don’t want to go in office, like Talkspace, Brightside, or Betterhelp. ChatGPT could be really handy, but it’s no replacement for working with someone on mental health.

I definitely want someone I can talk to in person. My mom is currently talking to someone but it’s just over the phone.

@lovebuglena Do you have a primary care doctor? They are usually the best at referring a good therapist. That’s how I found the one I used to see.

@AmbiePam My free insurance automatically gave me one but I’ve never been to that guy and I wouldn’t go to him anyway. I’d want to find my own physician. But I think anyone else wouldn’t be able to take me until I were to call my insurance and have them issue me a new card with a physician I want to go to.

I am one of those who is a big fan of ChatGPT. It has helped me restore my crashed laptop without needing to bring it to a technician. It has also been incredibly useful for legal matters, saving me from incurring costs that would have been charged had I consulted a real lawyer for simple issues. I even rely on it to read and interpret my lab test results before visiting my doctor, and most of its recommendations are nearly as accurate as those from actual medical professionals. This allows me to know exactly what to ask my doctor during consultations. I believe AI can be harmless when used correctly; by clearly defining what you want from it, it will adjust to meet your needs.

I use ChatGPT quite often but I'd be cautious about using it for your anxieties/paranoia. I've found it incredibly useful for getting background information or checking facts.

You need to speak to a bonafide therapist and not AI. AI is not a certified medical person. Talk to your mom.

I get that but some of the things that AI said based on questions my mom asked regarding my current situation made total sense. They weren’t BS answers. Can’t completely rule it out.

I keep my anxiety in line with my online work and finding favorite music to listen to and watching my favorite movies and shows, If a day is quiet and ordinary that is the best one for me, Why not give the ChatCPT a try? For your consideration
