A strange request

Recently I wrote about smart cars and how they can be manipulated by people other than the driver. This allows coercive control in cases of domestic violence. I was reminded of an incident which happened back in the 1980s in a small country town.
A young farmer’s wife came to Vince when he was working in a farm machinery dealership and wanted him to get her a new distributor cap for the farm vehicle. She wanted no record of it on the farm account and asked that he not tell anyone of her request. She was very embarrassed but said her husband had started bashing her. He would remove the distributor cap from the vehicle so that she couldn’t leave the farm without his knowing.
Vin got what she wanted and not too many months later, she left her husband and went back to her parents.
The photo is Vince's.

@LadyDuck I've recentlyy heard of an 80-year-old in a second marriage. Her husband gives her an 'allowance' and she has to buy groceries, pay her phone and car bills and anything else she needs. She can't leave as she has nowhere to go and no money of her own.

That was a smart woman, I learned when you're in a bad
relationship to get out the best way you know how & that's
to find that Open space when no 1 is around or knows what
your doing & leave when no 1 expects anything & not look back.

@2ndchances24 I'm glad you got away. That was bad luck to get two 'bad eggs'.

I think so too. It could have escalated into a dangerous situation.

@JudyEv I agree. The woman should have been safe with her husband but, since she wasn't, I'm glad she got out.

This photo is beautiful and serene. The new computerized cars are alarming. I've been watching videos of thieves figuring out codes using antennae devices and tablets to break in and start them. In a DV case, the husband or wife, girlfriend/boyfriend can disable the vehicle.

I don't think they had any children at that stage. That often makes it more difficult to leave.

Thankfully Vince helped this poor young wife who might have not been so lucky if Vince hadn't helped. She was smart to ask for that distributor cap so she could escape her violent husband.

In those days, it would have taken a lot of courage to ask for the part, and to give the reason. Mostly wives weren't really seen as 'victims' as such.

She was brave to ask Vince for help, and I am so glad that he helped her. It wasn’t acceptable for her husband to do that.
