Everything Old is New Again - Game Shows - Part 2

Sorry for the loooong time between installments. 1960 - 1979 The 60s brought a couple of changes to game shows...propriety was challenged when the Newlywed Game hosted by Bob Eubanks put questions to the couples regarding "making whoopee". In the early days of game shows, the audience members, for the most part, dressed in suits for the men and dresses, heels and hats for the ladies. On programs such as Let's Make a Deal, audience members dressed in costumes...quite a change! Some of the other game shows of the 60s were The Dating Game, Hollywood Squares, Password, Match Game and Supermarket Sweep. The 70s brought host Richard Dawson kissing all the contestants on Family Feud. Other shows -- Bowling for Dollars, the Gong Show hosted by Chuck Barris...the winner of this wacky show won $516.32, a reboot of Name that Tune, Tattletales and the $10,000 Pyramid (rebooted in future years as the $100,000 Pyramid). To be continued... Photo Credit: Pixabay

Not only have the game shows changed over the years but the prize money is substantially more. Seeing men and women in the audience now, dressed in suits and dresses, would be one of the biggest changes. I remember all those game shows and actually had a friend who was on Bowling for Dollars.

There have been some interesting games shows down through the years. I was a fan of Jeopardy until the host passed. Haven't seen it but a couple of times since then.

@celticeagle What I don't like about Ken Jennings is his voice. It's too high.

I watched some of those.I almost set the house on fire once when I was home pretending to be sick from school while my mother and dad were at work. I was watching The Newlywed Game when I noticed flames shooting from the wastebasket. They came close to catching the shears under the curtains on fire.

One incredibly obscure game show I remember is Treasure Isle. It lasted one season on ABC (I think it was on opposite of Jeopardy, which explains everything) in the late 60s. The host was John Bartholomew Tucker.

@LindaOHio — I thought Treasure Isle was cool. Of course, I was 7, so fun like that appealed to me more than a brainy show like Jeopardy.

It vaguely sounds familiar. No chance of surviving opposite Jeopardy!! lol

I still cannot believe Richard Dawson kissed all those women. Was it not talked about during the years he was the host?

None of those game shows reached Italy or the places where we lived in Europe. We had other game shows.
