Interesting Facts About Snow

Since becoming an adult, I don't care much for snow. It causes so many problems with traveling and at home for many. But, regardless here are a few interesting facts about the stuff:
* Monet, the impressionist painter, completed over 100 snow landscapes in his lifetime.
* Snow is not really white but is translucent. It appears white because the light passes through snow crystals and causes it to bounce back and reflects the entire color spectrum back all at once. This makes it appear white to the human eye.
* The biggest influence on snowflake size is the temperature. When it is below freezing the individual flakes are smaller and more dry. When the temp goes up crystals may have a higher water content which gives them the opportunity to clump together and make larger snowflakes.
* In 2017 scientists discovered that although Mars is very arid its polar ice caps are made of carbon dioxide. It snows up to 7 feet of the dry-ice-like stuff each winter. Venus also has some unusual snow.
* Japan has large loads of snow at higher elevations and some regions get more than 26 feet of snow each year.
When I was married to my 3rd husband we would travel the 54 miles from Boise over to Emmett, a nearby farming community, quite often. This is where his parents and much of his siblings lived. That 54 miles was mostly farmland. When it snowed the entire drive would be snow for as far as the eye could see. It got very tiring after a while. Snow can be lovely but not that much for that long a time.

A few months ago scientists discovered a large body of water under Mars crust.
Have you ever driven across Kansas? It doesn't matter if you make the drive in winter or summer. It's all flat and boring driving across it. It always made me tired with nothing to look at except flat land whether there was snow or grass.

@DaddyEvil ........When I went through there, we had a race car on the back that we were pulling, and it was weighed down with belongings. It rained and stormed and was rather scary with the car fish tailing behind us.

Oh, good. Yeah, it would be rather weird to think about when you don't get any of the stuff.

I don't blame you. We don't get much usually. I hope that is the case this year.

Even though snow is a bad word for some here (including me) that is interesting info to know about it. Didn't know that about the size of the snowflakes and such.
