Young mothers can have it tough

There is always something new to learn but even so, some things still surprise me. A friend has become allergic to cold and now carries an EpiPen. Imagine being allergic to cold!! It seems it is quite difficult to control but so far she is managing. Then I read an article about post-partum rage. This causes new Mums to erupt with all-consuming rage and over the smallest things. It can be fuelled by hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation and stress. Young mothers are reluctant to talk about their problems for fear of appearing to be a ‘bad mother’. It seems another indication of how our lives have become more stressful as more and more demands are put on people. You can read the article here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11-29/mother-comes-to-terms-with-terrifying-postpartum-rage/106072456 The photo is a photo we used in a Christmas card once. We took the photo probably in July so it looks like it's a cold Christmas but the reality was quite different.

In these times I cannot even imagine. I would really tell young girls to stay single and avoid most men. You cannot afford a baby in this world with the wrong man.

That's so, so true. I'm sure it's a struggle for many even with the right man - both working, childcare, expenses, huge mortgages, etc, etc.

@crossbones27 From women's liberation it seems the wheel has gone full circle and is now starting to turn back. I can see it's difficult for men too. I'm just glad I'm going out of the world.

Being a Mom is supposed to be Disneyland but reality isn't hilarious at times. That's a cute family photo.

There is virtually no training for motherhood. We did have 'mothercraft' lessons at school for one year but it was all pretty basic.

Your boys didn't stand a chance with the red/blonde hair on both sides, did they? I'm glad Pretty's mom stayed relatively sane and balanced after Pretty was born. I don't think I could have managed taking care of both of them if she hadn't.

@JudyEv Very true. I'm surprised there aren't more news stories about young mothers.

@JudyEv I was not prepared to be a Mom. Plus us parents were having horrible luck at finding work. I found work so my husband stayed home and cared for daughter. He was a super good and loving parent and they still have a very close bond.

Some are very unprepared. It's not like there are lessons in mothering.
