At least it is in the US. I am watching CNN and just saw the midnight fireworks from Sydney, Australia. When I wanted to study abroad back in college my options were England or Australia. (seriously who wants to try to learn advanced biology in a foreign language?) My mother was like "England because Australia is too far away" My retort was "yeah because England is right around the corner." I was pissed. Its a 7 hour flight so I don't know what she was on about.
In any case the fireworks show in Sydney was impressive from my side of the TV. We don't have anything official planned that I know of. The local yokels will of course light illegal fireworks off because that's what they do. I used to go out to the clubs on the barrier island back in the days but that was decades ago. I don't go out now. Midnight is way past my bedtime.
Living where I do people always ask if I've done the Times Square ball drop thing. NOPE. It sounds horrible. It is freezing cold. You can't bring anything into the area. You also have no access to bathrooms so people wear adult diapers. Like WUT? I'm not trying to freeze while peeing in my pants in the middle of the night. No thank you.
My big plans for tonight are. . . probably going to bed early. I certainly won't be staying up to watch the ball drop. The most exciting thing will probably be some spicy texts with the ex.
Do you have big plans for New Years Eve?

I’ll ring in the new year playing a jigsaw puzzle.

I used to go out to clubs with friends and dance until the bars closed but haven't done that in years. It was always a toss-up whether I'd see car accidents while I was driving home. (I would just drink juice while out at the bars. I went to have fun, not kill myself and others on the way home.)

Happy New Year! nope no plans for me other than cuddling with the pup and watching the ball drop in Times Square. I certainly have never had any desire to be there in person either for all the same reasons you mentioned.
