So there was some drama right after I got transferred

I got moved to this "observation unit" around 3:30pm. It is directly across from the nurses stations and a wide walkway that links the 2 sides of the unit. The nurse who set me up asked if I wanted the curtain closed but I said no. I don't care who can see me on my computer or phone. So I was sitting on the bed doing whatever when I heard this discussion between nurses, a tech, and a patient. I had heard one say he was being discharged "AMA" (against medical advice). They were asking him if he had a ride home and he replied that his wife had left the car somewhere in the ER parking lot but he didn't know where so he had to hunt for it. One of the nurses asked what she should do and offered to walk out there with him. The others were vehemently against that idea due to liability issues. Eventually his doctor came by and they consulted with him. He said he would examine him in the room which hadn't been cleaned yet. Again they were like "liability! He's already been discharged!" He said he would do it anyway. So they sat there feverishly debating the issue when they realized that both the doctor and patient were gone. The doctor was walking him out to help him find his car. They were outraged. While I felt sorry for the elderly man I wouldn't have done it. At the very least I would have had security do it. At most I would have called the police for assistance. It was a good thing that I wasn't trying to sleep because I never would have been able to do that.

I’m surprised security didn’t do it unless the doctor thought the guy was going to have a medical episode looking for his car.

well if that was the case then he shouldn't have allowed the guy to go out to his car and presumably DRIVE it.

In the hospital, they don't car how much noise you make or other people make. You sleep, you're lucky. I would have gone AMA as soon as I felt better They could hunt me down if they wanted anything else. (Once, they did send a police officer hunting me when I left without doctors' orders. I told him they'd let me sign myself out so they couldn't do anything more about it. He agreed and left.) I don't stick around after I feel better.

That fun must have lowered your blood pressure. I hope that man is okay.

It's so awful that the nurses refuse to do the most basic things to help a fellow human, that you would think anyone would do, because they are too afraid of the lawyers
