Another town with a crazy name.

Earlier today, or maybe yesterday for some of us, mylotter @RasmaSandra posted about a small village in Florida named Two Egg. The name originated from the Depression era, when two boys started bartering two eggs for a cup of sugar at the local little store there. I had known of this little Florida village, and when she posted this I started thinking of towns with really strange names. There is one not far from me.
Chicken Bristle, IL. Basically, a wide place in the road, located in Douglas County, IL. near Tuscola, bordering an Amish community. I can't find a population number to write about, but I can say it is really, really tiny--as they say, don't blink--you'll miss it!!
There are two theories of how Chicken Bristle came to have that name. One theory is that there were known ''cock fights'' in the 1920's in that area. The Bristle part of the name supposedly came from the fact that the fighting roosters had stiff, bristly feathers. The other theory is that the area was founded by some Kentucky settlers, and they brought the name, and the cock fighting stories, with them.
At any rate, it's a crazy silly name, like RasmaSandra's Two Egg, Florida. And the weird thing is, both of the names came from chicken or egg stories...hmmm...another reason to ask ''which came first, the chicken, or the egg?''
Do you know of a town near you with a crazy name?
There is even a crazy song about towns with funny names in the US. And yes, Two Egg and Chicken Bristle are both mentioned!

Well, as I stated she did give me the idea of little towns with big names. I do think it's strange that they are both chicken related!

Yes, you can. Pretty much every state here in the US has towns with odd names.

Sounded so crazy because eggs and chicken got together I searched and this is what I found
it has a small population of around 6,439 residents with a median age of 40. The area is characterized by a few homes, farmland, and natural features like thick woods and a radio tower. Despite its quirky name, Chicken Bristle is primarily rural and offers a glimpse into small-town life in central Illinois

We have a river called the Embarrass river that flows from my county to southern Illinois. It hooks into the Wabash River in Vincennes, IN. and eventually it's waters reach the Gulf of Mexico.

The population of Chicken Bristle is 6,439. Thank you for the information and the link. I can't think of any strange names except for Boring, Oregon. We went through there when we visited the west coast.

I am not doubting your research...I think that might be up for debate. It's not even an incorporated village, Honestly, when you go through there there is a sign and about 4 houses. Weird for sure.
