Accidents in the kitchen

Accidents in the kitchen.
A few years ago, well over 40 years ago a friend of mine had a really bad accident in the kitchen which nearly killed her.
She put an egg in a microwave oven and cooked it, still in it's shell.
She opened them door, looked at the egg, and it exploded on her face
She almost died.
Taught me to take care with a microwave
I have had a few mishaps in the kitchen, cutting myself, the odd burn
But what about you
Tell me all about your kitchen mishaps here please.

I’ve cut myself more than a few times. Even accidentally took off some skin with a peeler.

Thos peeler things are really dodgy .
Yvonne says I should use a peeler but I am far safer at using a really sharp knife

@Ineeddentures the peeler that I had an accident with was one that juliennes stuff. Regular peeler is less dangerous, especially if you peel away from you.

I can't work them
I can't do it away from me.
That's why I use a knife

The usual …few cuts , few burns ….the worst accident I had in the kitchen was last year when I had my fall and broke my arm.

That sounds terrifying!
I’ve never microwaved an egg in the shell, and I definitely won’t now..I’ve had my fair share of kitchen mishaps too, mostly small cuts and the occasional burn.

@Ineeddentures Oh wow, that really does sound like a grenade.
I can’t even imagine the mess and the shock. Definitely a kitchen disaster to remember!

I remember seeing the damage it did her face when she was discharged from hospital.

Vince boiled an egg for our son but it needed a tiny mit more cooking so he put it in the microwave. About a minute after he'd put it in front of our son, it exploded but luckily not really in his face. We didn't realise the inner membrane round the yolk had to be pierced too.

I think I remember you sharing this story (okay yes it just happened in conversation today!). If that is a personal photo then that looks very painful...well does either way but still.
I caught ramen on fire when I was younger lol, don't know how and I will still blame it on my younger cousin!

@Ineeddentures Looks real enough to me lol. But that's a relief then that it is not yours.
I don't remember exactly the situation, just that it was ramen and there was a fire when we were cooking it. This was over 20 years ago by now. I'd have her retell the story so I know who she'd blame but we don't talk to much, especially now that she's living in South Korea.

The blood almost looks fake blood.
It's not my blood, not my photo lol
I thought Ramen was a wet noodle like food when it cooks
It must have been really badly burned
Who would your younger cousin blame?

I no longer have mishaps because I do very little just thorw food together or heat up. But the worst thing I always hated was cutting my fingers and the worst was slicing through a finger with a moving food processor blade, I peice of meat had gotten stuck I should have unplugged but survived,

@ineeddentures My kitchen grief has all been of a culinary nature. I was so scundered with what I made last night that I binned it and ordered an Indian.

I have done that a lot.
But my latest way to ensure Yvonne agrees is to say to her in advance, I'm cooking such and such but I will mess it up, I'll phone the Ranj

I had a minor one recently when I dropped my nice beef stew lunch taking it out of the microwave. It was buring hot, slipped through my fingers, landed on the floor and I had to keep the dog from trying to gobble it up and burn her mouth.
The only other serious kitchen accident I can remember was cutting up a fresh head of cauliflower, knife slipped and took off a big chunk of my thumb. Had to go to the ER, stitches and a huge bandage on my hand. I still have the scar all these years later.
That exploding egg certainly sounds like a horrible accident. Guess your friend is not only lucky to be alive but I'm sure the recovery was painful.

I'm sure I cut a finger and I had a fairly bad burn. I still have a scar.
