Tonight’s dinner

For tonight‘s dinner, I decided to make some mashed potatoes, open a jar of herring, and make a salad of cucumber, tomato, parsley, shallots, and watercress mixed with sour cream. It’s going to be a delicious dinner. Usually the Russian staple is to have herring with boiled potatoes, but I’m craving mashed potatoes tonight. It’s gonna be comfort food for me. I can’t wait.

I’m lucky. I have a Russian grocery store near me so I can get it whenever I want.

The salad and mashed potatoes sound good. I don't know if I have ever had herring.

I like that the herring is lightly salted. When it’s very salty then you become thirsty and keep drinking and drinking water.

@lovebuglena .......I am very sensitive to salt. I blow up like a balloon. Lightly salted sounds like a nice aspect to it.

@lovebuglena It apparently makes easy to ship cat and dog treats without having to refrigerate.

I don’t eat it very often but I love it. Have you ever tried mackerel?

@lovebuglena Yes, I've had mackerel many times. When I was very young, we lived for a time in Galveston, Tx. Everyone living there at that time fished for mackerel and went crabbing. I think I started my big love of eating fish while I lived there.

I am not going to say it sounds good to me because I do not really like Herring . But I like mashed potatoes.Do you mash the potatoes with butter, milk, salt, paper and some mustard?

I add salt to the water and add butter when I mash them. Sometimes I add half-n-half and sometimes I don’t.
