The next Baking Club project: homemade cinnamon rolls

The past month has basically been a bust. I've cancelled 2 meetings and a bake sale because no one wanted to participate. Maybe part of that was due to the holidays. I don't know. Anyway I posted in the Google Classroom asking for suggestions, giving suggestions for projects, etc. A few members said they wanted to learn how to make homemade cinnamon rolls. Yes we can do that but it will take 2 days back to back and I will have to make the dough here in advance because it has to knead in the stand mixer for 20-25 minutes. Actually I can probably do it at work that day on my lunch. That might be a better idea. There's no way we could mix it up, do that, and then also make the frosting and cinnamon pecan filling. So they can do the latter 2 and I'll do the dough the night before. They can roll out the dough, spread the filling and nuts, roll and cut them on the first day. They have to proof in the fridge overnight and they can bake/frost them the following day. I'm going to have to bring in the 2 KitchenAid stand mixers I have so groups can do both the frosting and filling at once. I'll have to also bring in my rolling pin, 8x3 round cake pans, a couple of large ziploc bags, plastic wrap, a chef's knife, and of course all of the ingredients that aren't in the dough. We shall see how this goes. If it is a small group I think we can get it done. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. One of the challenges will be the weather. The plan is to do it Monday/Tuesday after school but if there's no school we can either do Tues/Wed or the following Mon/Tues. I just have to get feedback from the members as to what works better for them.

Have you considered the logistics of carrying two Kitchen Aid stand mixers from the third floor of your apartment to you car and back, not to mention from your car to the school’s area you use to cook?? I can’t hardly carry one of those monsters ten feet!! I mean, yes, it’s a great idea but all of that with your balance issues seems like a recipe for disaster!! Forgive me, like I said it is a great idea. Just a lot of work!!

That's why I'm bringing them in one day at a time. I'll bring the supplies and then get students to carry them in from my car to the classroom. I'll get them down into the car but they will have to bring them into the building.

@NJChicaa I hope it all works out well...we already have schools cancelled here for tomorrow, as the wind chill will be -25 to -30 degrees. It sounds like Monday will be the same, only with snow, I will be surprised if they have school that day, too.

I love cinnamon rolls. That's a lot of equipment to schlep from your apartment to school. I hope it all works out.

Yeah, it will be better with fewer people, and the really serious people can learn how to make something they really want to. I look forward to hearing how it goes.

Hopefully, just the ones who are serious about continuing the baking club will decide to attend and learn how to do cinnamon rolls. (They're fun to make but do take a lot of work. )

Hope all goes well. Things are still "odd" at Guitar Center. But we're still "picking each other up."
