Countdown To The Upcoming Snow Storm

United States
January 23, 2026 11:04am CST
Happy Friday Everyone! sunshine and cold. That's what's happening here this morning but it's all going to change pretty quickly Sat overnight into Sunday/Monday. Looks like a huge mess. I'm just hoping we get snow (bet you never thought you would hear me say that) and not any of the freezing rain/sleet that some states are getting. Temperatures will drop significantly so nothing will melt. I have a grocery delivery coming this afternoon and it should be interesting to see if I get everything I ordered. From what I've seen on the news, stores are running out of the basics. My older daughter and son in law decided to do a grocery pick-up last night when he got home from work. They arrived at the store and waited almost an hour for them to bring out their groceries. The place was packed and guess they were having trouble keeping up with all the orders. But, my daughter said they got everything they ordered so it was worth the wait. She also said if the waiting area for pick-up was so backed up and jammed packed she could only imagine what was going on inside the store. Guess many of us will be talking non-stop about this storm for the next few days. I wish for everyone affected that you stay safe and warm. For the rest of the myLotters who are enjoying sunshine and warm temperatures enjoy it for us Meanwhile, today is just a routine day. Stuff to do around the house, deciding what to make for dinner (chicken something), reading, crocheting and of course catching up on some tv shows.

I thought “stocking up” a few days ago was good, but I probably should have gotten a bit more. At least I have plenty of water and toilet paper (and pee pads). It’s just windy as all get out as well as some freezing precipitation. The really bad stuff won’t arrive until noon to 2pm. The worst is overnight, but then Saturday overnight it ramps up again. Mostly, it’s going to be snow and sleet, but the lower part of Oklahoma gets the ice. I hope you get everything in your order. It’s impressive your daughter and son-in-law did. I wish I could be holed up with you and your daughter. I don’t relish riding this out without another human. I’m sure I’ll be calling a few people and checking Mylot often. You guys stay safe too, okay?

I wish you could be here with us too Amber. I hope you and Sadie stay safe and warm. I got everything in my delivery except for one thing that was out of stock. I'm grateful that we got as much as we did and I added an extra tip to the delivery person,. I figure anyone who is out in this cold needs the money and I really appreciate not having to worry about my daughter going out to fight the crowds. Keep checking in as I'll be thinking about you all weekend.

@Marilynda1225 I can. Especially when you remember we border Canada and it's winter for them almost year-round. I'm sure they've been dealing with worse and for much longer. I sometimes wish I could fast forward time so the worst would already be over, but I'm glad I can't because I don't want to miss a moment with George.

I hope so too Kayla. It looks like it's going to be pretty bad and I can't believe how many states are being hit with it.

By tomorrow I'm sure they will be almost empty. From what I've been seeing on the news this evening they are dealing with tons of customers. Guess people are taking this storm seriously.

The forecast says the ice moved South of my area but we're still supposed to get the cold and snow here and, apparently strong winds, too. Pretty made a pick-up order and asked my brother to pick it up for us Wednesday night. We didn't get everything we ordered but it was close enough. (I was talking about making a trip to the store yesterday but the city parked two utility trucks in my driveway and the new neighbor's driveway while the city worked on the plumbing so I couldn't get out to go shopping.) We didn't see any sunshine this morning and the snow is supposed to start here around noon. The older neighbor and some of his sons were running chainsaws this morning but I didn't look to see what they were doing. (I was just falling asleep when they started so I haven't slept yet today. ) I've been reading a new-to-me book here in my bed. Pretty asked me to cook the other pair of steaks we had in the freezer so I laid them down to thaw. I got several more packages of steamed veggies and we'll have one of those with the steaks tonight.

Hope you don't get hit too hard with this storm, Good that Pretty was able to do the groceries and that you got most everything you needed. My delivery came this afternoon and I was only missing one thing (out of stock) so all in all I think we lucked out. I'm all set for being stuck indoors for days and just hope we don't lose power. It's going to be so cold no heat would be difficult. Hope you're enjoying your book. What are you reading? Your steaks sound really good. I'm making chicken tenders with baked potatoes and sauteed zucchini.

I am glad I went yesterday as I am sure it's worse today. I agree with you that snow is better than ice

I'm glad you got whatever you needed. I did get my grocery delivery today so I'm all set. Hopefully we won't get hit with the ice part and just have to deal with inches and inches of snow.

Glad that you are getting groceries delivered and that your family were able to get theirs, too. I went to Aldi on Wednesday, and they already were out of some items. And, it was crazy busy on Wednesday, I can't even imagine what it's like now. Stay safe and warm, Marilyn!

Wow, all of this is pretty foreign to me. We do tend to stock up very occasionally but mostly because there are extra day holidays or something.
