Trombones stop you flying?

I’m sure most of the members here have had issues with the autocorrect function from time to time. Vince is going to Thailand next week for a fortnight. There was going to be five in the party but he’s received word that one can’t attend because he has ‘trombones’ and can’t fly for six weeks. Of course, it’s meant to be ‘thrombosis’. Some autocorrects are embarrassing; some funny and some can cause real misunderstandings. Do you have a favourite autocorrect to share? The photo was taken near Salzburg, Austria.

I was thinking the picture looked like “The Sound of Music”. My favorite autocorrect is when I’d type in Amyra, it would change it to Amtrak. So basically, I’d text my niece and tell her I love a train system. The trombone is hilarious!

That's the sort of thing it does, isn't it? At least you'd be on the watch for that now.

I know we must be careful with computer auto-correct. I agree that some auto-correct are funny, but some very embarrassing. I turned my auto correct off, because it wanted to correct all my Italian texts into English.

@JudyEv - We spoke Italian also in Switzerland. The official language of south Switzerland is Italian. When we lived in Monte Carlo we spoke French, we lived there 31 years.

@LadyDuck Oh, I've got it now. I was sure you'd spoken French at some stage.

I can imagine it would be very problematic for you as regards Italian. Some of its corrections can be very embarrassing. So are you speaking more Italian now than you did in Switzerland? I thought you were speaking French quite a bit at some stage.

The first thing I do with a new electronic device is shut off auto-correct. I hope Vince and the group have a good trip and enjoy themselves.

He is only going for a fortnight (2 weeks). He is meeting photography friends there and they will be going to interesting places to take photos.

@snowy22315 It's interesting that a fortnight is in very common usage here but not over there it seems.

Luckily I turned off that feature because if my smartphone was not in its right mind then all the settings would be changed by itself.

Oh dear a bad case of trombones I get very annoyed with the autocorrect function. Just yesterday it did something quite funny that I can't remember now of course, but it's annoying that it changes stuff of it's own accord and there isn't any easy 'undo' function, you just have to delete letter by letter and write it again. I'm careful to check before I press 'send' but it's still possible to miss something.

After one too many messages that were technically correct but completely wrong, I gave up and turned autocorrect off. Peace restored

That’s hilarious! Can’t think of any embarrassing autocorrects at the moment, but I am positive I’ve had many over the years.

They come with the territory, don't they? If you have autocorrect then you're going to have the occasional clanger.

I hate autocorrect. I have to be so careful when I text on the phone. If I didn't pay attention to what I write here, the same thing would happen.

I have not used autocorrect .The ‘trombones’ and ‘thrombosis’ are poles apart.

Autocorrect just seems to take a few similar letters and comes up with a word. So if you remove the 'h' from 'thrombosis' you get 'trombo...' which is starting to look like 'trombones'. No excuse of course but maybe that's how it happens.

Oh dear ….an attack of trombones …! On a serious note, I hope his friend is better soon. Also hoping Vince has a great holiday. It’s not a place I have been to. I will try to remember some of the things The Mister has sent me in texts ….he doesn’t usually check and I have had some weird messages in the past.
