Tuffy is developing matts between is front legs and of course around his rump, he can't get to them to remove them and when I try he goes for the tools and takes them away from me, I don't dare argue with him because of his very very very .... did I mention very??? ..... claws and teeth. So far he's abused a brush and now a comb, does anyone know what I can do to get him to let me try to get rid of those matts without me getting the daylights cratched and bitten outta me?

Uh oh. I've lived with furry kids all my life and yikes. I'd call a grooming parlor and ask them.

Yeah, I called pet smart and they said as long as he's co operative there wouldn't be a problem ..... ummm, I just can't see him co operating, he's determined to just keep getting matted. I took him to a groomer last year but a few days later when I went to pet him he bit the heck outta me, he's not the gentlest fella, I always have to be careful how I pet him.

@rebelann Some cats refuse to totally gentle down, I can clip Beau's nails but not Freds or Peters. I wish there was a cat food that could help his coat. I have heard of dry shampoo for humans but cats? I hope you won't end up having to take him somewhere to get his fur shaved.

I have the feeling I'll either have to get him shaved or if my vet will help maybe I can get some kind of tranquizer that'll allow me to work his coat without me getting hurt too badly

I don't really have any suggestions unless there is something you can give him to make him a little bit dopey while you clean him up.

@rebelann I can't image the groomer being able to do much with him if he doesn't want to cooperate. They would have to restrain him in some way.

Oh, I hope you can figure something out. That sounds like a mess.

Thanks Yep, but the mess would be bloody if I am the one who tries to get rid of those matts

You need the help of a groomer. Also my Gevy had a long fur and it was very hard to deal with those matts. I used scissors time by time, but I feared to hurt him.

I used to use sissors on Spunky's coat but Spunky was gentle with me and co operated.

Tuffy sounds like a tiny fur tornado with a grudge!

Roll him up tightly in a towel and then try, but with a friend. He will fight you. Poor baby. Those knots pull his skin. If I were you, I would ask his vet. The vet can safely knock him out.

I will ask his vet to help or maybe she can give me something that would make him drowsy so I can deal with this myself

I"ve never had cats; but I know they can be ornery.

Boy is he ornery. I have to be very careful about petting him, sometimes he's just not in the mood
