Auto-correct from Bangkok

Vince has just rung from Bangkok. For some reason, I couldn’t answer him but we texted. He must have autocorrect turned on. I wrote about autocorrect recently. He took an old backpack and an old case. Both are pretty battered. He intends to buy new ones over there as we’re pretty sure they’ll be cheaper in Bangkok. Well, he has bought a backpack, which is good, but said he’d been to the markets and was just about budgeted. My first thought was that he had run out of money but then I realized he meant ‘buggered’. I wonder if I’ll have more autocorrect stories before he gets home. Another photo from Thailand.

Is that a bad word? It took me a minute to discern the word since Americans don’t use that word, but I didn’t know if that is a bad word in Australia. Obviously, I understand the meaning… Teach me, Judy, teach me!

It's a common word here despite the dreadful meaning. It used to be considered very rude/bad but the F word and 'sh*t' have replaced it and even those are used fairly indiscriminately.

@JudyEv I hate the F word and the S word being used so casually!

Poor Vince, I suspect he cannot find a way to turn the auto-correct off.

Buttered? Buzzard?!? I’m buggered trying to figure it out! Fun fact: Americans, particularly southerners, refer (or did) refer to rambunctious children as “little buggers.” Autocorrect is a pain sometimes.

You got away with writing 'bugger'! I was so sure it would be considered a 'bad word' here that I didn't even try to print it in full. Maybe I should edit it.

@judyev I hate autocorrect. Don’t like a machine thinking it knows what I really meant to say.

Somehow it's turned off for me. Maybe I did it or maybe I got someone to do it for me.

I have no idea what “bu**ered” means. Is that an Aussie term? If it’s a naughty word, you can message me

It's 'buggered'. I was quite sure it wouldn't be allowed here so I didn't write it out. Heaven knows, they pick up some very obscure words but apparently 'buggered' is okay.

@JudyEv I kind of have an idea of what it means. Sometimes myLot surprises us.

I watch what I write like a hawk. I'm glad you figured out what he said.

It can be pretty embarrassing if you get it wrong.

So far he mostly seems to be getting lost! He meets his friend in the morning and they'll travel to Chang Rai together. I'll be glad when he is with someone who knows the place.

I think if you delve deep enough through the menus on the phone, you'll find it. One YouTube suggested going to Settings, then System, then Keyboard but I guess different models might be a bit different.

We had another chat this evening. He has to be up at 6am to catch a plane to Chang Rai in the north. His companions should be catching the same plane that he is. I'll feel happier once he is with others.
