For most of you, the music countdown ends today, because the person who’s at the top of the list is there for me and few other crazy people.
As far as impact goes, I would say this was the biggest loss in music from 2025. Here’s a salute to this great.
#2: Brian Wilson
Listen, “genius” is thrown around as carelessly as “how are you” these days. Brian Wilson was a stinking genius. He wrote so many of those Beach Boys classics. He arranged the vocals. He produced the records. All of that while dealing with mental health issues. Your fun trivia of the day: Glen Campbell was a touring Beach Boy to take Wilson’s place when his stage fright overwhelmed him to the point where he couldn’t perform.
I don’t have to explain the Beach Boys. They are synonymous with American summers. They were the primary American rival to the Beatles for record sales in the 60s, and in many cases the only band that held influence as long as the Beatles did.
To this day you can hear traces of Brian Wilson’s influence in music, be it a surf guitar or structured harmonies. He truly was one of the heavyweights of music.
Thanks to those great songs, the “endless summer” will continue, but it will seem just a little less fun without Brian around.
Brian Wilson
Born Brian Douglas Wilson, June 20, 1942, Inglewood, California
Died June 11, 2025, Beverly Hills, California (respiratory arrest) (age 82)
HALLS OF FAME: Rock and Roll, 1988 (with the Beach Boys); Songwriters, 2000
My favorite Beach Boys song, “Sloop John B.”:

Lots of things to be thankful for. People of his generation with those types of problems don’t make it to 32, let alone 82.

I want one more " trip"
Just once more to put it to bed once and for all.
Then I might live until I am 82

It’s hard to be sad when a Beach Boys song is playing!

Hell Yeah, till this day I am the only modern white dude to play the beach boys in the middle of the day at my local bar. Some seemed to enjoy it, most seemed not to realize how important that music was/ So silly. Freedom comes from free people.

Sad. I think I saw the Beach Boys in concert. I NEVER forget who I saw; but it was with a guy who was very strange. He asked me to marry him on the second date. I think that's why I'm trying to block out the events.

That’s one reason I always go to concerts alone: nobody is going to spoil the music for me!

@FourWalls He invited me to another concert. Said he already had tickets. I don't remember which group that was for either. I told him no thank you.

My Dad got tickets for me to see the Beach Boys in Indianapolis. Sister and I drove over and he surprised us by going with us--and he was old school about music, but he said he wanted to go. We had a blast together, we hadn't all been together in a long time. Then the Beach Boys came to C/U a few years back to play at our county fair, but I didn't go. Brian Wilson wasn't in it, it was sort of like a tribute band...um, nope.

So many years ago...sister lived out west for years, with all of our work schedules being crazy, it was hard to get together. At that time, I was only 3 hours from my Dad, so it was easier for us to see each other than it was for sister to get there.

It’s like the 60s are hanging on by a thread now.

It’s an old song, originally called “The John B. Sails.” Goes back to the 19th century and the Bahamas.

Not really a big fan of the Beach Boys but I like watching their old videos especially the ones where Mike Love dances.
