Small annoyance but extremely irritating.

That is, it's the little things that can make a person want to scream in frustration. Ever hear of a floater? Sure you have. Basically, there are two definitions of a floater. One is a person, dead or alive, floating in water--or in some cases, an object. But that's not the one I am discussing here. The other is an eye floater, or floaters. A tiny black speck, or group of specks, that can come and go and they seem to actually float through the air--a person sees them, of course no one else does, and you literally want to reach up and grab them. I've had them now and then, but very minor, and then they have never lasted very long--presto, they leave very quickly. Floaters rarely, if ever, affect people's vision unless it's a huge one that will not move out of your line of vision.Floaters are common in adults from their 40's on up. A few years ago, I developed an extremely annoying floater. It wouldn't budge from my line of sight/vision, like all the other ones had done in the past. My ophthalmologist hiked me off to a machine and zapped it with a laser. It never bothered me again, truly it was magic. I had no pain or irritation at all. Other than that one instance, I've been clear of eye floaters with the exception of now and then seeing tiny ones float by. But now I have one that is so annoying. In the left eye, at the outside edge. It shows up and disappears fast--but I always think it's something there that is moving--a small animal, etc. if I am out and about, or? Who knows? Anyway, it won't go away. I am happy it has not affected my vision, but doctor says it needs to be lasered. If you have a big eye floater it can be a sign of a retinal detachment, which no one wants. So far, I have lucked out on that. Add this to the list of things I need to get done. I don't have a detached retina or any eye damage, so I don't have to have it removed/lasered. But it's so annoying, I think I am going to go ahead and do it. Do you have floaters?

Oh, yes, I have them. You get used to them, honestly. However, the first time I saw one in my eye, I spent ten minutes chasing it around the bathroom with a fly swatter.

Oh, I know-it’s like a fly in your line of vision. I have gotten used to them before. But this one won’t leave and go take a break!! I keep waiting for that to happen but nope. Abra Abra-abracadabra! I want to reach out and grab ya! This one was designed to irritate me to no end!

They truly are. I am always jerking my head to the side to see what's there and find...nothing.

@LadyDuck The little floaters are just there to visit us, I think. It's the bigger ones that don't ever go away that seem to concern my ophthalmologist.

Yes, I have floaters. Thank goodness they don't last very long. I learned some valuable information from your discussion. So if I have one that won't go away I will head to the eye doctor.

I have floaters and they get worse when I'm very tired. Probably at age 70, I'll do the laser thing. I have three years to go for that.

@MarieCoyle Thank you. I kind of ignore them. I didn't know they laser for floaters. It may be something I'll do too later. My eye doctor said I have the starting of a cataract and he said all using by the age of 70 get them and wind up with laser eventually.

@noni1959 Yes, I have the beginnings of a cataract as well, but it's been stagnant and not changed for several years now so I don't worry about it. The doctor said it was very mild and required nothing right now, which is fine with me!

@MarieCoyle I'm so hyper sensitive to mice because of the infestation that I used to have. I see anything move; and I think it's a mouse. Yuck!

Give them all a tiny stick and maybe they can just smack them to pieces.

It is good to get them checked out at least. I do not remember having floaters but I likely have.

No, I don't thankfully. I'd be annoyed if I did because any floater would affect my vision.

Nope, I have not had this problem. Actually, my vision is such that I wear prescription glasses, but when I read and look at fine print, I have to take them off.
