Last Fairly Large Expense

I managed to go over to my dad’s after going to the two pharmacies this morning. I waited for the medication to kick in, and felt a little bit better to go to lunch with him. It is always nice to spend time with my dad. He was talking about getting a part time job after retiring in January of 2027, but I don’t know what he’ll end up doing. He’s also going to have to spend $250 for someone to dig a hole and fix his water meter. He knows how to do it, but I told him it wasn’t worth getting hurt to save the money. And with his neck history, he needs to just spend the money. What your last fairly large expense?

My last electric bill was 226 dollars does that count? Isn't he a part time minister now? Couldn't he just stick with that?

Sure, that counts. I have heard a heck of a lot of people saying that about their electrical bills. No, he’s still full time. He handed over some of his responsibilities to the assistant pastor, but he’s still full time. He IS debating becoming the assistant pastor there, but he doesn’t know if it will pay enough. I know they want to keep him there in some capacity.

My power bill is hooked in with the water bill and city sewer bill so it will never be very low. I am glad you are starting to feel better. Good luck to your Dad. Does he get a church pension?

@sallypup I don’t find it rude at all. But he knew very well when he chose his profession his reward wouldn’t be monetary. His heart is full though, and he considers himself very blessed.

@AmbiePam Forgive me if you find me rude for asking. Now I feel very spoiled.

It is probably best that your dad hires someone to do the work. There is no sense in chancing getting hurt. My last big expensive was license plates for my vehicle.

Can't really remember what it was. I'm terrible at spending and I always spend more than I really should. Yesterday, I was playing Bananagrams with my son and mentioned my dad and how he would have loved this game if he was still with us. Recently, I've been frequently mentioning my dad to my son. I miss him so much.

@AmbiePam Right. I love my father a lot and I was his favorite child. Unfortunately, I was only able to spend 13 years with my parents. Craig is fortunate he still have me and his dad.

That does sound like it would be hard on his neck to fix the water meter. Sometimes it's worth the money in the long run even if you can do it yourself. My big upcoming expense is March when my house insurance is due. I pay it yearly so it hurts to see all that money sucked out of the bank

Last big expense was the building we bought for me to store all the auction wins in.

We have our car in the garage now hoping to figure out why something is draining the battery all the time when it didn't have any problems for years and years, until we had the motor rebuilt a little over a year ago. We've budgeted $1,500 for that project. I agree, with your dad's age and health conditions, it's worth spending money to have somebody else do the work for him now.

We are finding that we now have to pay people to do things we could have once done ourselves. It's a hard thing to accept sometimes.

If we were closer we'd come do it for him for way cheaper.
