My schedule changed again, at work

The situation is that paraprofessionals are to be "support" and not necessarily "friends" with their students. I think I am both, but I know when to keep "hands off" and allow space. One student has had an early twenties helper that it is too "chummy" with. The principal asked for it to change. I already support this student for a half hour daily--he does not like it. Now I am his helper for another hour daily. He will have to get used to it. On the other hand, since I am older his teacher will respect me more, and I can get his accommodations put in to place. It is not a difficult accommodation, he is to have physical breaks out of the classroom periodically. I just am not looking forward to the reception I will get at first. This afternoon Bob has his appointment with the oncologist, to look into why he has so many nose bleeds this year. Full day for me, of course, because I am leaving school early to go with him. Hope you all have a good day.

It’s unfortunate that other person didn’t stick in the right frame of mind when interacting with that student. Hopefully, the doctor can explain the nosebleeds.

Being a paraprofessional is a difficult job, but they are so necessary. Most of my paras were so helpful, although I remember having 2 doozies. Good luck and the best of luck to Bob.

Keeping that professional distance is hard. The lines blur so easily.

I hope the student doesn't keep you offside for too long. I'm sure it's not an easy task.

You never know It might just go better than you expect I hope so. I am sure the student will get used to the change and might even embrace it

Hopefully things get better overtime. These types of situations can't be easy. But sometimes there's not much you can do about it.

I hope things work out with your new schedule. The student will just have to get used to your ways now.

I hope they can figure out the nosebleeds and get them to stop. Good luck to Bob! It doesn't sound like a fun job for you. At least I wouldn't like doing it. I hope everything goes well for you.
