My schedule changed again, at work

The situation is that paraprofessionals are to be "support" and not necessarily "friends" with their students. I think I am both, but I know when to keep "hands off" and allow space. One student has had an early twenties helper that it is too "chummy" with. The principal asked for it to change. I already support this student for a half hour daily--he does not like it. Now I am his helper for another hour daily. He will have to get used to it. On the other hand, since I am older his teacher will respect me more, and I can get his accommodations put in to place. It is not a difficult accommodation, he is to have physical breaks out of the classroom periodically. I just am not looking forward to the reception I will get at first. This afternoon Bob has his appointment with the oncologist, to look into why he has so many nose bleeds this year. Full day for me, of course, because I am leaving school early to go with him. Hope you all have a good day.

Being a paraprofessional is a difficult job, but they are so necessary. Most of my paras were so helpful, although I remember having 2 doozies. Good luck and the best of luck to Bob.

The other para is not really a problem, she works hard, but the kids want her as a friend or see her like a big sister. Add to that the teacher likely does not respect her as much because she is young. I am old enough to be this teacher's mother and she has seen me in action for over 8 years so it is likely I can smooth some rough spaces for my kid.

It’s unfortunate that other person didn’t stick in the right frame of mind when interacting with that student. Hopefully, the doctor can explain the nosebleeds.

I will do medical updates tomorrow evening. We have a cardiology appointment tomorrow right after school. It is not that the para really did anything wrong. ALL the kids prefer her because she is young to them. Part of the problem is this is the most difficult teacher in the building. The kiddo is just getting used to me. The teacher respects me because I am old enough to be her mom, AND she knows how I work as she has had me in her room before.

I hope they can figure out the nosebleeds and get them to stop. Good luck to Bob! It doesn't sound like a fun job for you. At least I wouldn't like doing it. I hope everything goes well for you.

Your job is very challenging; but I know you are good at what you do. I hope Bob's appointment went well. Could the nose bleeds be caused by the dryness in the house? I hope it's nothing more than that.

These nosebleeds go beyond the regular winter dryness. The oncologist says it is a bone marrow problem. We add moisture to our air.

You never know It might just go better than you expect I hope so. I am sure the student will get used to the change and might even embrace it

The student will come around. He is just beginning to see that I have his best interests at heart. One more appointment tomorrow for Bob to see what the cardiologist says and then I will feel like posting a medical update.

Hopefully things get better overtime. These types of situations can't be easy. But sometimes there's not much you can do about it.

It is like life, we do not always have a say so. The teacher I am being pulled out of is disappointed because she likes how I work in her room. The teachers know me for how I work as they have seen me for eight years.

Keeping that professional distance is hard. The lines blur so easily.

They do and the kids all like the young para because she seems more like a big sister. I think he and I will get on okay. His issues are not really academic, but are emotional/behavioral. I do not know all the details but he has had some rough times.

I hope the student doesn't keep you offside for too long. I'm sure it's not an easy task.

He seemed more concerned that the other para did not want to be with him anymore. Maybe did not like him.Not necessarily true. He does not realize that I am in a better position to advocate for him because I am older.
