Bought some Meat

February 11, 2026 2:51pm CST
I ordered some meat from a farm shop with an onsite butcher Me and my pal who lives over the back went halfs on an order and it got delivered today The star of the show was the 3kg of Rump Steak we each ordered. So me and Yvonne had a Steak tonight So much better than the shite the supermarkets sell to us these days. And marginally cheaper So Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, ASDA, Sainsbury + I am not buying your beef products any more And neither are millions of others who like me, are buying direct from Farms. We have been ripped off for long enough

Buying from a butcher is best. I’ve had meat from Lidl before and it wasn’t bad. Won’t rule them out.

Lidl meat doesn't come close to this Lena Most Lidl meat is tampered with to increase the weight Not good

The taste is soooo much better. And the ground beef doesn't shrink down as much when cooking because water has not been added for weight

@Ineeddentures I read they soak it in water before weighing it to add weight.

@wolfgirl569 Aye Well I know this stuff was from an Animal well looked after and which ate grass in a field, and was slaughtered humanely and the meat not had anything added to it It's good, we enjoyed a nice steak last night

It's always good to cut out as many 'middle men' as possible. That steak looks very yummy.

My BIL buys half a cow each year. They have more meat than they know what to do with.

They used to have good quality. Until they started cutting corners to maximise profits

I always buy cut meats by the butcher especially if they have an offer. I buy 2 Kilos every time and divided the meat in 2 persons portion and freeze them for later use. Butchers meat is still the best.

@Ineeddentures Water added? How they do that? Yes, it is best to check.

Some butchers here now are buying imported Beef and Chicken which has water added to it I think it's best to check with a butcher where the product comes from

@thelme55 I think it's injected into the meat

I haven't bought meat in years. I can't cook or bake anymore; so my poor husband lived on frozen dinners and an occasional steak or hamburger that he made. Now that he's gone, I live on sandwiches and frozen dinners. Enjoy your beef!!!

Beef is best Linda. I could live on sandwiches and frozen dinners as well I probably would if I was single as I know I wouldn't cook for myself

@Ineeddentures It does get boring. Fortunately I have Meals on Wheels for lunch 5 days a week.
