Dreaming of a New Career in My Next Life

I was watching a favorite reseller on YouTube, Bearded Thrift Machine, and they were doing a thrift store day where they went to the different Good Will stores finding things they could resell. They found three Brother brand printer toner cartridges for $15. He put the cartridges on eBay while still in the store for $40 each. By the time he got out to his car they had all three sold netting him $120 - the $15. Now, in my next life I think that is what I am going to do for a side gig. Just sell certain things. You can also sell a lot of stuff on Whatnot.com too. They sell ALOT on there. Have you sold stuff on either of those before? I sold on eBay years ago but not sure I could even figure it out now.

I've never sold anything online but Pretty used to sell all kinds of stuff on eBay, especially when she was home from college. She'd take pictures and upload them and, when something sold, she'd box it up and I'd take it to the Post Office and ship it for her.

That could be very lucrative.

@celticeagle When Pretty graduated from college, lots of the kids didn't want to take their stuff they'd used in college home with them. We rented a U-Haul trailer and I towed it behind my car. Pretty filled it with stuff other kids gave her or said they were leaving behind. She made a LOT of money selling it on eBay and in a garbage sale she had a couple of weekends after we got home again.

Postage is so difficult to work out now and so expensive that I don't sell on eBay anymore.

In watching these shows I found that was a hard one for me to understand. That part of it could be hard.

It's not easy to sell something like that here. So I just give my old stuff away.

I think different areas buy different things.

I have sold some of my jewelry on Facebook Marketplace. I never wore it. My sister used to be super active selling on Poshmark so I would give her bags of clothes that were too big for me as I lost 100 pounds. She still has a ton of my stuff but rarely lists or updates anything.

A lot of people use that Poshmark and the Marketplace. I wear my clothes for years and am not into fads so my things last me. I just think these resellers really have a good idea.

I sold quite a lot of random things on Ebay but that was starting 20 years ago until around 2020. Since then I've really struggled to sell anything!

That sounds amazing! My son sold some of my jewelry online and I insisted he keep half the money. I usually just drop my things off at a consignment shop.

It's amazing what recycling and reselling old items can bring.

@celticeagle I f I wasn’t so time restricted, I would do much more. I dropped things off at a consignment shop in Florida last year and was told I have some money to pick up. I will get around to it soonish.

I sold a lot on eBay; but it's a lot of work getting everything ready for shipment, etc. Now postage costs are so prohibitive and I can't do the packaging and running to the post office. I've never heard of Whatnot.com.

@celticeagle What a coincidence. I saw a commercial for Whatnot.com on TV yesterday! I still have a lot of collectibles that we bought at garage sales, etc.; but I don't know what I'm going to do with them. I've given a lot to the Salvation Army and Goodwill.
