I Think That I've Got Both Sides Right Now

I have always been shy and introverted. I remember in high school I was very shy. Got better when I had my daughter. I have severe social anxiety. I used to think there was something wrong with me. I used to think people saw me as broken or anti-social. But in doing research about depression and anxiety I have found that is not at all true. My brain merely works differently than others. I get stimulation from quiet reflection and deep thought. I don't need to go out and be around others to feel okay about my life. I enjoy my solitude. I have my daughter and grandson here too and that is enough. In fact, the last few days we've had a lot of maintenance people here and it really tires me out to have so many around. It depletes me. Staying home is where I prefer to be. I don't like crowds. People can be so rude and ugly at times. Having an internal world as I do, I feel actually enriches my life. I find all the research I do stimulating and my mind is at peace. Too much external stimulation is tiring, and I don't need to be around people all of the time to be happy or feel fulfilled. It's a good feeling. I wish I had realized it earlier in my life.

The internet helps you to be social without having to make eye contact. You can go forth virtually, hopefully safely.

Well said. Much of what you said here I can fully relate to. Whilst I did enjoy my younger life I might have just enjoyed it more of ai had loved in a sort of bubble that ai have lived in with Yvonne since the first COVID lockdown Since then we have had very little contact with other people socially And it's been great

I rarely feel the need to be out among other people. I love reading and get any books I want online and enjoy my quiet time. If I want to talk with people, I come to myLot or bother Pretty. I had to force myself to be social at work and loved getting away from everybody when it was time to come home. (Even at work, I'd go to a corner of the breakroom and eat my lunch while reading a book and most people left me alone in there.)

I am also a person that prefers to keep quiet and keep to myself with the exception of my family members being close to me.

I think most people like to be around their own company. My older son was like you, but being around a social wife, his work as an attorney, and lots if social commitments, he has had to work at being more outgoing and social. He actually told me so himself. He still prefers his own company, but has enjoyed being around other people. I’m happy for him.
