The Mystery of Foot Fall on the Roof

Lately I have been hearing what sounded like a person walking around on the roof. First I thought it might be maintenance who get up there to remove leaves and other debre from time to time. But it was at odd hours when maintenance wouldn't be around. I thought about squirrels but they don't have that heavy a foot fall. What other larger animals are around this time of year? Surely racoons wouldn't get up there. Turkeys haven't been around for months. Hmm. The other day my grandson was in my room when it happened again. We both looked at eachother. Then we heard some geese making their distinctive honking noise. That's it! Geese! Mystery solved.

Hearing footfalls on the roof would make me nervous. I'm glad you figured out who/what was making the sounds. We have a heavy storm happening right now. The Weather Channel claims we might get up to 3 inches of rain tonight and the same again tomorrow. We need the rain but not that much all in one night.

Everything much becomes boring and can cause destruction. Here we have clouds gathering I guess the rain can pour in about 30 minutes or so.

I'm really afraid if I hear foot steps on the roof. It happened to me too. I heard little footsteps on the roof fronting my bedroom's window so I installed an electric bulb at my window. Then in the days that follow, I again heard the same little footsteps so I put on the light and there I saw a cat walking on the roof. From then on, I'm not anymore scared if ever I hear these little footsteps.

@Laurakemunto Yes you're right. At least we have peace of mind when we know what it is.

We have squirrels and raccoons on the roof all the time. When my husband was alive, he'd go out in the middle of the night to chase the raccoons away.

Geese? I had no idea Geese would do that. They fly over our town in their thousands to the reserve they have used for donkeys years But they never stop in the town

If they see food they probably would anywhere. We see thousands going over our apartment each fall.

Glad that you have an eye witness and that it is the geese. I never thought of that. Raccoons is what I thought of.

I thought of the racs first but their little surely wouldn't make that much noise. It sounds like a person walking around.

When I hear strange noises, I like to know what making the noises too. I do know that there is usually a logical explanation but it can still be scary. Unidentifiable noises make me uneasy.
