Deliveries gone wrong

Walmart did it again. This has happened before, that I ordered nothing from Walmart, but received a grocery order that wasn't mine. A few years back I did get several orders that weren't mine--all grocery, mostly cold items, found on my porch when I arrived home. Always on a hot, hot day, and were cold/refrigerated items like milk, ice cream, meats, etc--and all hot and practically cooked in the grocery bags, because they were left outside in the heat all afternoon and delivered to the wrong home. And of course, had to be tossed because it was so hot outside. I don't use Walmart delivery for food or anything, I never have. Today's delivery was two packages of baby diapers, two cans of baby formula, and a large container of laundry soap. Of course, when I called Walmart and said it was delivered to me and I didn't order it, I was told to keep it. How foolish...this lady doesn't need baby items. I went on our Facebook page that is like a community board for the area I live in. I just said I had received someone's order, and if they would message me as to what they ordered (so I knew it was theirs) I would be glad to leave it out for them to pick up or see that they got it. About a half an hour later, I did get a message from a young woman who described the packages to a T. She said it was OK, as Walmart would give her credit or replace the order. But I do not use these things, and she has a young family, I told her that. She was happy to have some extras, so all is not lost. Her Mom came over and picked it up for her and kept thanking me, I told her it was fine, glad the items would get used. If I hadn't found the person who ordered it all, I would have donated it to our local food pantry that keeps baby items for those in need of them. I hear of this kind of wrong delivery thing constantly, so it must happen often. It makes me wonder, doesn't all of this wrong delivery idiocy add up, and who pays for the costs in the end? The customer, I'm sure. Delivery is great--when it works like it's supposed to. Obviously, it doesn't always happen.

I am glad you could find who was the one who had ordered the goods. I agree she has a young family, some extras will be good. My delivery went well this morning.

@MarieCoyle - We decide at which time of the day we want to be delivered. I always choose from 8 to 8:30 am.

There was nothing I could use anyway, my babies are all grown up. It just seemed like the thing to do, she was very appreciative.

@rakski I didn't meet her, just exchanged messages. I did meet her mother, who stopped by to get the items. What she got, with the diapers, several cans of baby formula, big jug of Tide--the receipt for it was nearly $100. For a growing young family, that's a chunk. The Mom was very nice and sweet.

It turned out well for them due to you. Fortunately, I never had a problem with deliveries except for where they were placed.

I have had some things delivered in the past, however I do not use Walmart delivery. I only go there for the occasional prescription and maybe while I am waiting on that, check stuff out for prices, etc. That's it. They make no money off of me.

@DianneN Walmart is closer to me than Aldi. In really poor weather, or when son might not be well at all, if I need something I have to go there. I know Walmart is a lifesaver for many, the one that is closest to me is just not a very good Walmart. It's huge of course, but not well-kept and there are always isles blocked by stock that never seems to get put away. They also seem to have a lot of empty shelves. If I have to go get something, I will. It's not all bad. I simply do not like the way they treat their employees.

@MarieCoyle Walmart works perfectly for me. I place the order online; and the new lady will pick it up on Mondays. The other stores here don't have that.

The mistakes I have heard of and received without ordering, and hearing of other's as well, just amaze me. How do these people keep their jobs if they consistently deliver an order to the wrong address? And like I said, we know who pays in the end. I have never liked Walmart and never will, I have seen small town after small town completely destroyed when Walmart moved in. No more downtown stores, no more mom and pop hardware stores,, and on and on. I will probably stick to Aldi for most things and to my local grocery for the occasional milk or single item needed, which isn't often.

I’m so glad they got the extra things for free! That was very nice of you to go to all that trouble. Yes, I’ve gotten free fish before, milk, grapes, Tide, because they can’t take it back. Walmart has given my order to other people too. Thankfully, they haven’t done that in awhile. But those delivery drivers…once, they set my order in front of the OFFICE of my apartment on a Sunday. Of course, but the time I found out someone had stolen everything. All because the delivery driver was just that lazy.

In front of the office, now that took some brains, didn't it? Good grief. No, they can't take it back. When I have received these orders that are not mine, I try to return them to the person who ordered them but when the food is already spoiled and they got a new order, that's not possible. But this wasn't perishable, and I got lucky to find the purchaser, so it all worked out.

Walmart did replace it for her by the time she saw my post, as I said she just told me to keep it. But I have no use for those things, and the son is allergic to Tide, I was glad for her to get them. She definitely got two for the price of one, but the items didn't go to waste. Thanks, Snowy.

That’s one reason I’d never use Walmart. The way they go through the store with those orders tells me they have no real concern for what they’re doing.

I've seen some of those shoppers, too. They are talking to a friend or someone on headphones or ear bud things, while they are looking at their phones at lists, etc. and multitasking everything at once. No wonder they make mistakes, good grief.

I am absolutely certain that the customers pay for these mistakes. After all, when your company's profit line is in the hundreds of billions of dollars every year, it's no doubt just a drop in the bucket.

I do use Walmart for delivery and rarely have a problem with mistakes. Your wrong delivery certainly was a huge mistake on whomever delivered it. At least you found the person that it belonged to. I would have gone the extra mile (like you did) since it was baby stuff and would assume the person needed it. I'm always looking for ways to save money but I do have to agree that with mistakes like that Walmart is passing the loss onto customers.

One of the things that amazes me when this happens or I hear of it happening to someone else is that the delivery person often delivers the order to a person who is not even in close proximity to the address it is actually delivered to. It's basically like they don't keep track of which bags go to each place they stop--they just get out and start tossing the bags around. So strange.
