City Pigeons Come to Lunch

Trusting and so cute, city pigeons looking for lunch. As the first crumb drops, it’s every pigeon for himself - hoping to score the biggest piece. Pigeons are all over the world, I know. In Riga, Latvia, I am convinced they never went hungry, but I loved to see them, so I fed them, and large flocks always accumulated.

They usually gather where food is found. I see them near food godowns and rice mills. They surely look cute.

Thankfully, we rarely see pigeons here. I had a friend who raised them when we were in school but his parents weren't happy if he let any loose.

@RasmaSandra Because they are considered pests here and people shoot them when they see them.

@jstory07 Well, in the city they were never really too hungry, but I enjoyed feeding them.

Pigeons are everywhere it seems. I know a lot of places in Europe had spikes along rooves, etc, to try to keep them from landing.

@JudyEv well, they can mess up benches, and statues and other things, but what is a pigeon to do?

Pigeons get a bad rap in cities, but I think they are cute!

@AliCanary Well, I like them and besides what do they want the pigeons to do if they settle down in a city?

@RasmaSandra exactly. Although pigeons are an exception because they started out domestic, most of the time we are moving into an animal's habitat, and we need to quit acting like we have more of a right to live there than they do.

They do look cute and are found everywhere. I have them sitting and visiting my terrace everyday all the time. And I am annoyed by all the mess they create for me to clean. These days in our city, they are discouraging to feed pigeons.

I personally don't like pigeons, they are filled with diseases and if you live in the cities they crap all over your car

@BACONSTRIPSXXX The pigeons are not at fault; they are part of nature and do what comes naturally to them,

@LindaOHio and that was in only one place; Riga was full of pigeons everywhere. The luckiest ones lived in the parks.
