You may think this is weird, such a hillbilly music lover going all in for someone like Neil Sedaka. I saw him twice: once in 1976 at the state fair, and once in 2015 at a 4th of July concert in Kettering, Ohio. He was amazing, especially the 2015 show. Or maybe by that age I could appreciate him more. Sedaka died today after emergency surgery in Los Angeles. I’m sad…and mad. His name wasn’t on the list of nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Now that he’s died, they’ll probably break their necks putting him in, the way they did Jimmy Buffett a couple of years ago. Sedaka was 86. Here’s one of his happy songs from the 60s, “Calendar Girl”:

He is good. I met him once years ago when he played here in Boise. Loved his tunes.

That’s cool. He could mix the serious and the fun so well.

I liked him. Yes, they will probably suddenly be in a hube rush to honor him.

Maybe they didn’t want him singing there so they didn’t honor him. “Hey, kids, this is what rock and roll was like 60 years ago.”

Of course, I know his songs and this one. A friend took me to one of his concerts long ago. Time…I have to wonder at times, where does it go? I still picture him in his prime, not 86! Another one gone. I was running an errand today and the radio was on in the car. They were giving him a salute and playing his songs.

I’m glad they remembered him. He had two distinct careers: the pop 60 and the more serious 70s. Plus all the songs other people made famous.
