Today's harvest

My little tomato plant is putting a lot of effort into producing these tiny tomatoes. My standard lunch at the moment is lettuce, 5-6 tiny tomatoes, cheese, a handful of sultanas, cucumber and a touch of Italian dressing. Very ordinary I know but it’s cheap and easy. My strawberry plant has succumbed to chilli thrip and I pulled it out this morning; my butternut pumpkins still don’t have any fruit on them so I’m thankful for my tomato plant which continues to produce.

That actually sounds like a nice and healthy lunch to me. Sometimes the simplest meals are the best. It’s good that your tomato plant is still producing even if the others aren’t doing so well. Fresh tomatoes from your own plant must taste great! Literally from your garden to table.

I enjoy my salad lunch. The plant has at least several new tomatoes ready for picking each day.

What a nice and healthy lunch! There’s nothing better than growing our own vegetables and herbs. I can’t wait to return to my gardening. So sorry about your strawberry plant. I’m going to try strawberries for the second time. The birds got into my first attempt years ago.

@JudyEv I am planning on using a large strawberry ceramic container and covering it with fine netting on my patio and see how that works out. I’ll send some to you in an envelope if they grow

My strawberries had a lot of fruit but they were all dried up and shrivelled, thanks to the thrip. I don't think I'll bother with them again as the thrip stays in the soil.

@DianneN We had one of those ceramic containers once but the soil kept falling out the holes. I'll wait a while then start watching the mail.

I am very sorry your strawberry plant did not make it, but your tomatoes look great. My Poinsettia also succumbed. I knew as soon as I received the plant as a Christmas present. I do not arrive to keep those plants alive.

@JudyEv I was sure my poinsettia would have not survived. I am surprised it lasted 3 months.

I absolutely love homegrown, fresh tomatoes. But it's too early still to plant them here, so I have to wait! Enjoy, Judy.

I should think it is too cold there at the moment.

@JudyEv In my area,it’s recommended not to put plants out until Mother’s Day. I usually put them out the first week of May.

We have our main meal at night but Vince starts to worry if I don't eat something for lunch. The sultanas are the ones I've had soaking in gin.

@JudyEv I poured all mine on rice pudding that had been warmed up in the oven It was really tasty. Might do it again sometime. But not with expensive gin lol

At least one is working out I am giving up on tomatoes for this year. All I got for my troubles last year was 4 tiny tomatoes. I am gonna try peppers this year.

I'm never really hungry at lunchtime so a small salad is quite enough for me.

The plant with the bigger tomatoes didn't do so well but this one keeps on fruiting.

Its a shame that the strawberry plant did not make it, but those tomatoes are delicious looking, and you got quite a haul. It is still over 2 months before we will be able to plant outside, it is just starting to turn warm here, but the nights are cold still.

In that little bowl you have about four times as many tomatoes as I managed to produce in the whole of last year Tomatoes were a total disaster for me last year!

I'm really, really hoping the butternuts pull up their socks and produce something. That would be good.
