Not only does this bird look odd with big googly eyes but he is a master of camouflage. This type of bird is found in the rainforests of Central and South America. These birds are nocturnal and blend in with the trees and you might not even see them during the day. Despite it all these birds are an important part of the ecosystem. Potoo birds primarily eat large flying insects All about the potoo

@AmbiePam it certainly is different but I would not want it living with me imagine waking up in the night and seeing those eyes.

@RasmaSandra If you could see it. They're camouflaged really well. You'd probably walk right past him if someone didn't tell you he was there.

I wonder if the potoo is related to nighthawks who are known for looking like owls and work at night.

@Deepizzaguy I checked the Internet and it says Potoo birds and nighthawks are not directly related, but they share some similarities. Both belong to different families within the order of birds known as Caprimulgiformes, which includes nightjars, nighthawks, and potoos.

Wow, what an unusual bird! Huge eyes make the beak appear so tiny. The bird really blends in with the trees! They would be great at the game hide and seek. Very interesting video.

@dgobucks226 these birds certainly are unusual and you could easily pass one by and not know he is there unless it was night and you saw those eyes.

That’s really interesting—potoo birds look so unusual, but their camouflage and role in the ecosystem are pretty amazing!
