Just Amazing

That is a picture of a similar possum I found online, but the one that came on my porch was about as big. I was heading for the bathroom and looked through the window of my front door. This sad little possum was sitting there wondering where his next meal was coming from. Enjoy heating up frozen buttermilk pancakes from Walmart and sometimes even eat them topped with a pork sausage patty. I had one pancake left over, so I took it from the fridge and opened up the door. This cute possum stood with his two paws on my threshold blinking up at me. I bent down with the pancake, and he took it in his mouth and walked away. I was so touched that he was not scared of me.

@RasmaSandra They will get used to being fed and not doing so often will make it stay wild. It's hard. Best way I did was toss something out without an animal seeing me. I made sure it wasn't people food though. Like a chopped apple.

@snowy22315 the boys downstairs put out a trash pail under my porch for me to toss my trash and last year a bigger possum got into the trash bin and I almost dumped garbage on him,

That's sweet! I think they are very cute. We have one that we feed on our deck, but I've never tried to feed him/her by hand.

I hope he doesn't remember you and come back for handouts very often. They can be a nuisance at times.

@DianneN you know, seeing his paws on the threshold, I first thought he wanted to come in and then I would not know what to do but he just stood there and nicely took the pancake.

@Ronrybs except since I am all alone, he will be disappointed a lot of times waiting for food. I don't have much to share always. Unless I open a possum food bar but I would get no income for that

Free food what's not to like! I can relate a bit to your experience. I would feed the Carolina Wrens on my back deck some peanuts. Got them to take them from my hand a couple of times. A good snack overcomes human fear.

Aww, what a sweet little visitor! It’s amazing how trusting he was, and I love that you shared a pancake with him. Moments like that really remind you how gentle and curious wildlife can be. Thanks for sharing this heartwarming story! ??

The 1st time I ever seen a possum was when I was going outside &
opened the door to my porch there was 1 sitting there & it wasn't no
baby either, it scared the living daylights out of me & I screamed &
ran back in the house & shut the door & was in for the day.
