Many immigrants from the Netherlands found a new life in America in the state of Iowa. With them they brought tulips. Over the years everyone in the state of Iowa fell in love with the lovely flower called the tulip. Every year they hold a three-day Tulip Festival in the city of Pella to remember their Dutch founding fathers. The city of Pella was founded by Hendrik Pieter Scholte. He was a minister who immigrated with his wife, three daughters, and 800 followers. They build their "City of Refuge." All of these immigrants arrived looking for religious freedom. Moving to a rural area, Scholte became a jack-of-all-trades. He was the one who laid out a plan for the town, decided the names of the streets, and built a church. He continued to develop the town, setting up a lime and brick kiln, opening a sawmill, and founding a bank. establishing a newspaper, and even becoming the postmaster and the land agent. Every spring, Pella springs forth in the beauty of tulips all around.

@RasmaSandra True. Mom planted different types of tulips in one flowerbed. When one color started fading/losing their petals, another color/type was just blooming.

Interesting history. My brother’s wife grew up in Iowa. I’m seeing her tonight and will ask her if she’s aware of that. I was lucky to see the tulip fields in the Netherlands. Glorious!

@RasmaSandra I've driven through Iowa several times but pretty much only saw either corn or snowy fields.

When I was married and living in Utah, we used to go camping off a mountain pass between Huntsville and Wellsville, UT. On the drive up to the pass, we would pass through several mountain meadows that were occasionally full of blooming flowers. I never had a camera with me, but I enjoyed the sight every time.

Well, The Dutch founded New York. New Amsterdam was a 17th-century Dutch settlement established at the southern tip of Manhattan Island. I love The Netherlands.

My daughter loved the Netherlands when a previous employer sent her there for additional training. She called me to say she didn't want to come home.

@RasmaSandra - I suppose that NY is too polluted and the land too expensive to plant tulips.

@LadyDuck and it's surprising that there are not tulip fields in NYC, but there are some places with lots of tulips in NY State.
