What gets you into something?

Nominations or actual awards don’t usually influence what I watch, listen to, or read. Do they you? @NJChicaa has posted a little about the Oscars (which took place last night), which prompted me to look up the results even if I have not seen any of them. What gets you to read, watch, or listen? With books, is it just the synopsis? Or, are you one of those celebrity book clubs? I’m currently reading a book a Mylotter recommended.

Usually, I'm tired of the same old thing so I'll go looking for something different. Sometimes I like what I find and other times I'll go looking for an author I've never tried before.

Don’t you love it when you discover a new author you like? It’s such a great (to me).

If a friend recommends a tv programme , I might take a look . I like it when friends say a restaurant is good or bad …..saves us time and money if it’s not worth a visit. Celebrities don’t influence me at all.

I wish celebrities had less impact on young people. When I was a child, I wanted to be like my mom, not any celebrity.

Awards don't influence me to watch something. I was rooting for Timothee Chalamet coz I have seen his movie that got him nominated. I also saw Michael B Jordan's movie Sinners and I enjoyed it too. His acting there was superb as well. But I like Timothee more.

With books I know that I like crime stories and mystery. I have a kindle, so I read the synopsis and decide if to read or not. With movies I watch the trailer.

When it comes to book I generally read authors I like but do read books recommended to me by others (my daughter, cousin, aunt, etc). I've also found some good books recommended by myLotters that I probably wouldn't have read otherwise. Same goes for tv shows.

With books it is usually a synopsis or a blurb that attracts my attention. Sometimes it coud be a recommendation. One reason I like to watch the Oscars is seeing what movies I would like to see after they come out in streaming.

First it should catch my attention for the first minutes, and second things that did not opposed my belief, and third it should be a happy endings, lol! I don't want to get stressed most of the time on the things that should help me unwind not to make my day sad, hehehehe.

I hate sad movies, and won’t watch if I know it ends badly.

@luisadannointed You know what used to do as a teenager? I’d go to the bookstore with my friend or mom, and when I found a book I wanted to read, have them look at the last few pages to tell me if it ended happily. If it had a sad ending, I’d put it back and then find another until whoever was with me told me I had found one with a happy one.

@AmbiePam Same here! Hehehe that is why I see to it to read the last page of the book that I am going to buy, and wait for the last episode of kdramas that I am planning to watch before investing to it... coz I hate sad endings, we all have so many sad endings in real life heheh I don't need that for my magical world, lol!

Mostly I just pick up books that look interesting to me, and I guess that is mostly the 'blurb' on the back with some influence of the cover design because that's always made to convey a certain type of content isn't it? (although they say never to judge a book...) When it comes to other things like films, I listen to the radio a lot so I hear about interesting films (and books too of course) on there. Very occasionally read about something in a newspaper or magazine.

I don't follow any "influencers" or listen to the hype. I just find things on my own or recommendations from myLotters and friends.

When a book title catches my attention. Then I begin searching for it. If someone I know has the book I borrow it to read. Otherwise, I end up buying it online or at a bookstore.
