Addiction - not only drug related

When people hear the word addiction they automatically think drugs or alcohol, right? But let's dig a little deeper into addiction. Working away from the homestead for the past 4 years I have seen so many different addictions. 1) the shopping addict, buying household items. 2) the food addict, buying carts of food everyday. 3) the clothing addict, daily clothes shopping. 4) the doctor addict, yes this is real, people going to the doctor, sick? Maybe, but I believe it's for attention. 5) sex - porn addict, can't work a shift without watching porn. 6) the phone addict, always on the phone. The list goes on and on, and these people with the above addictions aren't on drugs or drinking. Sometimes when I look at a person I ask myself, what's their addiction?

I’m addicted to Coca Cola. One might conclude I’m addicted to sugar, but I’m not. I don’t eat OR drink anything with a load of sugar in it besides Coke. The longest I’ve gone without it is 4 days.

Well, I find pleasure in working online and researching and writing and personally that is my entire life but with explanations like this, you could say I am an Internet addict.

My addiction was collecting books to read "later", after retirement, but that looks elusive. I am still running from pillar to post having no time to read the collection of books.

doomscrolling addiction if it is... I belong. But slowly this year it's not as always I keep scrolling over my phone without any productive things done online.

When I think of addictions I tend to think of gambling because that is so prevalent in today's society. It can be done in person, bought to take home or done online. I am thankful that I am too tight to have that addiction, but I do have an addiction to coffee. I love it.

Pretty is addicted to diet sodas. She's always buying more and drinks several cans of it at a time.

You left out gambling, but hit all the other big ones. I’m sure that many people are addicted to more than just one.

Addiction is life. It's hard to be totally balanced in any part of life. Not saying that as an excuse. I'm a sugar addict so I don't drink booze.

@andriaperry No, his addiction wasn't against germs but something strange...he always wanted his book pages to remain new and stainless, when you flip pages using fingers, it tends to catch dust & dirt from your hand...so, he didn't like that
