For many of you, the trip back to 1976 is filled with memories of great songs and albums that we were buying then (or, for you kids, what your parents were listening to
). Here’s one I’m betting you might have preferred me to NOT remind you of.
Happy 50th anniversary to this album!
She’s My Baby - Wings
NO way on earth would I use “Let ‘Em In.” Listen, “Silly Love Songs” (which was the #1 song of 1976 on the Billboard charts, staying at #1 for five weeks) was, yes, “silly,” but the triad of parts at the end (“I love you,” “how can I tell you about my love one,” and “I can’t explain…”) make that a well-crafted song. “Let ‘Em In” was just stoopid.
So why am I even bringing this album to mind with one of the songs from the album that wasn’t released as a single? As I said, Wings had the #1 song of the year, and the “Wings Over America” tour was a massive event, spawning a movie and a three record live album set. When a former Beatle, especially the most commercially successful one, is breaking records, you have to notice.
And, honestly, I love this song. The critics had a field day with trashing it, but face it: Paul and Linda McCartney were truly in love. The only time they were ever apart was when Paul was arrested for marijuana possession in Japan in the late 70s. If she hadn’t died of breast cancer at such a young age (56) in 1998, they’d still be married. That was a true rock and roll love story.
So if he wanted to sing about how much he loved her, I say let him.
She’s My Baby
Written by Paul and Linda McCartney
Recorded by Wings

And i never liked Paul until later in life when he told his new wife to hop to it!

I know, it's not loud enough music and it has lyrics.

Not all, but lots to like about his songs with and after Wings. Among favorites is This One and then Mull of Kintyre, or however it is spelled.

I know which one you're talking about, no matter how it's spelled.

I know. I’m sure Paul’s heart is still hurting.

Hooray! I really liked it too…not as much as the previous two, but it was still solid.

Naturally we know who these artists are, but we did not recognize them or this song in this song
