Comfort Food

I'm playing in a big national paintball tournament this weekend, the first one of the new season. Despite our team being the reigning World Cup Champions from last season, we are playing horrible in this tournament and have lost all our matches so far. We won't be make it into the championship rounds on Sunday. During a break in the games, I decided I needed some comfort food to help cheer my mood from our lousy game play. I've been craving ice cream for a couple of days now, so when I got back to the hotel I went and got some coffee chai latte ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, and some chocolate syrup. Just the thing to hit the spot and brighten my mood. The ice cream is going to do nothing to improve my game play this afternoon (if anything, it will make it worse), but at this point it doesn't matter and I'm just going to have fun and enjoy the day. When you're having a bad day, or just need a "pick-me-up" food, what is your go-to comfort food? Mine is anything sweet, or in this case, ice cream.

The bad part is that I'm lactose intolerant, so eating ice cream is a no-no for me. It will give me a bad stomach ache. But sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do, right? lol

@moffittjc Right! speaking of ice cream, I got some Haagen Das today. I haven't had it for years, but I used to love their rum raisin flavor, and Cassis was the other one. They had neither but I got some of coffee, toffee, almond butter.

@snowy22315 Funny you mentioned that brand, because I saw yesterday that it is BOGO out my local grocery store. I'm probably going to get some chocolate chip cookie dough Haagen-Das when I get back home. I know I don't need to be eating more ice cream, but I do love me some chocolate chip cookie dough!

Can't eat pie when I'm playing in tournaments. Well, I guess I could, but then I wouldn't want to go back out and play after that.

@Ineeddentures I wouldn't want pie residue all over my face either, especially since we have to wear face masks out on the tournament field.

I can never turn down chocolate! It's often a go-to for me as well. I will often keep a handful of mini chocolate bars on me to snack on throughout the day.

I do love me some chocolate as well. Anything chocolate as a matter of fact. And your comfort food sounds like something the English would eat. Wait....you are from the UK! hahaha

I watched a documentary several years ago about a world championship paintball tournament. I wonder if it is the one you’re talking about. People even came from Europe to compete. My go to comfort food is probably a hamburger because it’s easy to find if I’m out, or fix if I’m home. Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer fried chicken. But I only like homemade fried chicken, and it takes too long to cook when I’m in the mood for comfort food. That picture looks fabulous!

Not sure if the documentary you watched is what I was talking about. Our World Cup championship happened just this past November. Although teams from the US dominate the pro field, there are a few international teams that constantly participate and do well: Edmonton Impact from Canada, Red Legion from Russia, and the TonTons from France. I love hamburgers too, and it certainly is a good comfort food, but they are not always quick and simple to make.

Early season rust? I’ve found that I don’t like sweets as much as I used to.

Definitely early season rust. And sadly, the tournament is in our hometown of Tampa. We're the "host" team and we looked like amateurs out there. But, we did manage to salvage the day. We came back in the afternoon and dominated, and by doing so squeaked into tomorrow's brackets as a wild card. Not great, but at least we gave ourselves a fighting chance. The bad part is that we are not a morning team, and never have been. We always suck in the morning games, and do great in the afternoon games. But as a wildcard team, we're going to have to play morning games tomorrow. Sigh.

Sometimes I will crave something salty, like cheesies, but other times it will just be a coffee-I love my coffee. And good luck during the rest of the weekend and your matches.

I love salty foods as well. And I'm just like you...coffee is a true love of mine. But not during tournaments. The acidity of the coffee would upset my stomach too much. And you won't believe this, but our team came back in the afternoon and dominated. We went from having no chance in hell in advancing on to Sunday to squeezing in by the seat of our pants as a wild card. So we stay alive to face another day!

It definitely improved my mood. And check this out....winning has a way of improving moods as well. We can back in the afternoon and dominated all our matches. Based on the morning results, we had absolutely little chance of advancing on to Sunday's matches, but after dominating this afternoon, we made in as a wild card for tomorrow!
