Got Surgery Done.

For the removal of my gallbladder stones, It has been around 3-4 years since I was first diagnosed with gallstones during my annual whole abdomen ultrasound. Since then, I have not experienced any significant symptoms that would require immediate removal. Then my nephew went through months of pain, repeated ER visits, and hospital stays because of abdominal issues, only to find out that gallstones were the cause. Seeing what he went through stirred something in me. I know I have a high pain tolerance, but it’s not just the pain I’m thinking about. It’s the hassle, the sudden trips to the ER, the uncertainty, the stress, and the disruption it can bring to our daily life, especially when I am alone with my son, who has mild autism. That is when I started to reconsider my situation. Even if I’m not feeling anything now, I can’t help but wonder if it’s better to deal with it early rather than wait for things to get worse. So last February 7, I had it removed.

Good for you, getting it done before another flare. I have had several family members who suffered from gallstones, I know they can be so painful.

The doctor said I might not feel any symptoms today or even for a year or two but it can kick in anytime

I’m so glad you had the surgery. My late mom had hers out, as did my sister, and it was a great relief to them when they were gone.

You made the right decision, my mother in law had to be rushed to the hospital to have surgery and it was a complicated situation because she waited too long.

@rakski - My mother in law was not in pain, it was a surprise when she had to be rushed to the ER and then had immediately surgery.

@LadyDuck oh wow, what is the reason for her to be rushed to the ER?

true! I cannot imagine that scenario, that I will be rushed to the hospital in severe pain and that I have my son with me that I have to guide him on what to do

That was probably a really good decision. Our son has a kidney stone which he is waiting to have removed.

You made the right decision. I hope you've recovered already. My 83-year-old mom has loads of gallstones. I'm bringing her to the doctor this Friday for a checkup.

Trips to the ER can be exhausting, but I’m glad to hear that your gallstones were successfully removed. Are you feeling better now?
