I got my balcony garden started yesterday!

A few days ago, I cycled out to a place on the bike path where I hear preschool kids stopping for a break with their teachers. I planted some corn, green beans and sun flowers near the fence, where they will get good morning sunlight. It's basically an experiment. Can I get a tiny garden growing in a random place? Yesterday, I planted seeds for my own "balcony garden." Same "crops." We'll see what happens. In a few minutes I may cycle out to the "bike path garden" and water it with some water infused with a bit of Miracle Grow, or whatever it's called. It's a product I've used with great success over the years. Do you enjoy gardening? Do you enjoy introducing your kids and grand kids to gardening?

Yes, I did and still have my indoor plants. Pretty and I are still arguing about planting anything outside. She doesn't want to water anything when I can't see to go out and water them.

@TheHorse She doesn't like going outside if she doesn't have to do it. That's why I haven't had outside plants in several years now.

Teaching gardening to kids is fun. They are really enthusiastic about each stage in a plant's development.

@DianneN What were your favorite "crops"? Out here it's corn, green beans and sunflowers in Summer, and snow peas in Winter.

My dad’s wife does a tremendous job with her garden. Unfortunately, I step outside into their backyard and my allergies go crazy. It’s gorgeous, but a nightmare for allergy sufferers. Of course, she doesn’t grow any “special” crops like you.

Do you take anything for your allergies? I take Benadryl, but it makes me sleepy.

@TheHorse I take generic Claritin D a few times a month. If dementia runs in your family Benadryl is bad for you, so I have to forego that.

@AmbiePam Thankfully, it does not. I have extra IQ points on loan from God.

Yes, I loved gardening and this is the only thing I miss from our previous house. I am planning to buy raised garden beds for our balcony and plant at least some herbs.

@LadyDuck I have had decent luck with cherry and Roma tomatoes. I am not so good with herbs.

I’m not a gardener. And since I am terrified of bees/wasps I’d never attempt to grow something as that means bees/wasps flying around.

@lovebuglena I don't know what kind she is. She built a web just inside the window by my desk, and I let her keep it (for now), as it's interesting to watch when yellow jackets get entangled in her web.

I hope your plants do better than mine but they've just had about 3 inches of rain so that should energise them.

Yes, I enjoy gardening. I used to teach my nieces in the Philippines how to plant veggies and flowers when I was in my garden. I usually go to my Philippines house every other year. This year, I couldn’t because of the war. Anyway, I was there last October.

We do like planting fruit trees, crops. We are being influenced by our father as he was a farmer. That's a corn crops you planted in your balcony garden, right?
