Look what the rain brought

A few days ago, we had three inches of rain over the course of a night and the following day. This was a consequence of cyclone Narelle travelling down the west coast and bringing a lot of destruction as it went. Thankfully, we just copped a lot of rain. When I went outside next morning, I found this pretty pattern on the patio pavers. It looked like flower petals at first, but the white and yellow heaps are tiny piles of sand. I guess the foundation underneath consists of both white and yellow sand. There is no sign of any ants so I don’t really know what has caused these. They are only on the pavers that are under the roof or under the eaves. I guess I’ll need to go out soon and sweep away the pretty patterns.

I thought I was looking at teeny flowers and in one place it looked like an ant hill, for those tiny ants.

At first glance, I thought they were flower petals too.

I thought it was flowers blooming at first, too. It's pretty, whatever caused it.

@JudyEv I'd be worried the ants will come inside.

It does look pretty - and interesting that it's two colours.

@JudyEv I was at school in Malawi with a girl called Narelle from Dampier. Thanks for conjuring yet another bout of nostalgia.

My pleasure! I guess you mean Dampier in Australia? Any idea what her family were doing there?

@JudyEv Yes that’s the one. Her father was a technical instructor like mine.

I think you're right. They have all the appearance of ant's nests.

They do look like flowers. We got a lot of rain last night, along with some sheet lightning and grumbles... nothing dramatic. But we're still getting rain today.

Our rain has moved on now but the weather is definitely getting a bit colder.

They really looked like small flowers. Heavy rain would have meant a lot of disruption to the daily life.

I am sure this has been caused by ANTS! You cannot see them, but they dig inside throwing out the sand. They did this all the time where we lived in Switzerland. I had bought a powder and filled the little round holes with the powder.

I'm glad I can't see any ants. Good that they haven't got into the house.

Whatever that is, they're pretty, like nature's work of art.

Mother Nature does a great job of providing us with pretty things.
