Friday Night in the Big Town

@FourWalls might remember the late Oklahoma meteorologist, Gary England, said this every Friday night during the broadcast. You saw the original movie, Twister? You probably saw him. Unfortunately, now we have David Payne to scare people during bad weather. Gary always calmed everybody.
I’m on my fourth tornado warning with sirens tonight. Several tornadoes have touched down as evidenced by the continual power flashes. Also, in other counties, as lightning flashes you can see the outline of them. Even when there is no tornado you’ve got 90mph winds in some places. Gonna be a lot of damage.
Several schools were holding their prom, and they’ve stopped them to go take shelter…Wow, there goes another power flash. Tornadoes are on the ground. I’m glued to my TV.
I’m fine though. I think all the storms with tornadoes have passed me. I’m just getting massive amounts of rain. Did you know in Oklahoma you’re more apt to die from a flash flood than a tornado? My city has real flooding problems. We had a grant to update our flood warning system, but when Trump had Musk go through with DOGE to make cuts, they cut our grant for that.
I hate spring. Okay, your turn. Anyone need this rain?

I was watching KOCO’s live stream all night. Glad you’re okay.

We have had gentle rain most of today. I never watch the weather. Prom was last weekend for our schools. Our local newsletter did post the three places in town that have public storm shelters. This time of year I almost worry more about out of control controlled burns. I could see flames across the field last night as I went to bed, but it was a long way away.

Yes, Southern Missouri NEEDS the rain. We're in drought conditions here. We have a heavy thunderstorm at the moment. I have my bedroom curtains open so I can watch the lightning flashing across the sky. We're supposed to get between 1/4 and 1/2 an inch of rain from this one storm alone.
That isn't enough to fix the drought but it will sure help with it.

Glad none hit your area. We have had a lot of rain the last couple days and more possible today. We had a tornado warning last night but that part of the storm was already past us

I'm glad you're safe and sound. We have had gully washers worth of rain. We don't need anymore.

I'm SO GLAD you're okay. April 3rd is etched in the memories of me and @FourWalls because in 1974 we had a devastating deadly tornado in Louisville, KY.

I would be shaking in my boots if I had all those sirens going off with tornado warnings. I guess you sort of get used to them there but definitely not here. We get the occasional tornado warning (which is fairly new since the weather has been so unpredictable) and that alone gives me a big case of the scaries.
Hope you're ok there and those pass through without causing any damage, problems, etc

Thanks, Marilyn…I don’t know what it was about last night, but I had total peace about the tornadoes. And so far, no deaths have been reported, it’s just property damage. One image sticks out in my mind though; the trampoline stuck in the very tall power lines.

I am glad you are OK, Amber. I always hate to see the damage these storms do. It does sound like the schools were being smart about trying to keep the students safe, that's good. I hope no one is hurt anywhere. We had some tornadic activity all around us this evening--it was sort of like a horseshoe on the map for awhile, and we were at the bottom of it and other than wind and rain, had no tornadoes. Be safe!!
