Why I have to “fool” my doctor.

Yes, I’m going to the doctor today about sleeping up to 18 hours a day (not on purpose). But having to “fool” her is now something I do automatically because she doesn’t seem to get “it”. I wish doctors would listen better. I’m white, and some of you may remember seeing my picture. I’m very pale, and I don’t wear blush. In the past year or so I’ve ceased to wear makeup for the most part. It shouldn’t be a big deal since all I ever wore anyway was lip gloss and foundation. So what’s the problem? Without the little makeup I did wear my paleness stands out, apparently, to her. I come in for something minor and suddenly she comments on my pale face and wants to check this and this, and so on. The other day, I tested her. I came in once again, with no makeup. She started to go on and on, and then stepped out of the room. I hurriedly went into my purse and put on some lip gloss. She comes back in the room, looks at me, and tells me we don’t need to bother doing such and such after all because I look fine now. So, how do I “fool” her into not looking for red herrings with my health? I wear some stupid lip gloss. Good grief! Doctors not listening is how you end up being a person with low blood pressure suddenly forced to take medication for high blood pressure for two years. That aggravated me to no end.

That's awful. I'm so thankful that both my VA doctor and my civilian doctor listen to me. I mentioned that, because they listen to me, I had benzonatate at home when I needed it (in January when I had covid) instead of having to either go to the emergency room or try to get an appointment.

I can imagine how annoying that is for you. We are lucky with our doctors but I'm sure they get things wrong from time to time.

So what does she say about all the extra sleep?

I guess she doesn’t plan to say anything until she gets the results of my urine test.

@AmbiePam nice pic, you look alot like your sister. My sis and I don't look alike at all, but oddly we have identical voices well nearly identical, my parents especially my dad could always tell our voices apart.

@AmbiePam I now remember that I’ve seen you before. Sorry for the trouble. You are absolutely beautiful! And don’t you dare deny it.

How frustrating .... It annoys me when I'm at the Doctor's and all I've said is hello and they are already tapping on the computer ... ! Sometimes I think I should say something like " I've just eaten a frog in the car park " Just to see if they are in fact listening ....

That's awful and I don't think she seems to ve a very competent dr. Are there any other drs in your area that you can switch to? I wish you the best of luck

She’s actually a nurse practitioner of her own practice. But my last “doctor” was a nurse practitioner, and he was great. I think I’m going to give her a full year, and if she doesn’t get herself together, I’ll switch. I’m just hesitant because I’ve gotten some really poor primary care doctors, and testing the waters makes me nervous.

I wish you the best of luck with the doctor. Glad I don't need to see one, Imgine me telling the doc I don't remember when I even had a check up. He or she would write me up about ten prescriptions for anything and everything they could think of and I would be homeless and on the street because I couldn't afford any of that

Doctors must be good listeners if they want to heal their patients.

I would of just gone to the ER. They take UTI's seriously. I went to two different ERs for one a couple years ago

I have to wonder what she would say if you told her this story. I, too am extremely pale. I have always been pale. The old saying of “you can’t judge a book by its cover “ is so true. Doctors, as we know, can be so frustrating!! I’m sorry you had to put up with such foolishness.
