I have only seen a fox in this general areas a couple of times, so I was quite surprised to see this one. Generally, they are nocturnal. I hope it wasn't rabid. I was walking back up the streets from doing my steps and I saw the fox about 10 feet from my mailbox coming down the hill. He could sense something was there, but didn't see me until I said "Hey, go away, at which point he or she took off back the way it came. That was a surprise. Any wildlife startle you?

Foxes are prevelent here in the spring as well. They tend to move into secluded areas in or near a town or city to have their babies every spring. Coyotes will attack the babies in the wild. I have seen many this year, but they will soon be gone when the babies are old enough to travel back to their home place.

This was really only the second time I saw a fox here...although one time sitting on the deck I saw a coyote. Another time when I was walking Jax, I saw them in the shadows. I picked him up and rushed back to the house.

Illinois has a coyote problem. So often you can see them early morning or at night, crossing highways, etc. When I lived in my previous home in southern IL. it was in the country. Coyotes were everywhere. When I moved there, a small barn was on the property. It had 4 feral cats calling it home, and they of course had been put there to keep the mice population down in the barn. One by one, the coyotes killed them. I would find fur and remnants and it wasn't nice. I don't like coyotes.

I see foxes all the time in my yard up north with a squirrel in its mouth. They bring them to their dens a couple of houses away, across the street, or down the block. Last summer, one brushed against my leg while I was playing a game on my iPad. It took a shortcut beneath my table. It startled me. When I turned around, I was happy that I didn’t see what was in its mouth. It felt very soft.

That would scare the heck out of me. It sounds like that particular fox has no fear of people.

@snowy22315 I ran in the house just to wash any germs off my leg. I’ve seen them walking down our street where I walk, and they are quite harmless. They just trot by and never stop to chat.

@snowy22315 - We do not have wild turkeys here in Europe, but in this area there are peacocks.

It's not unusual for them to be out during the day. They do mostly hunt at night but not always.

I know if I saw a fox near my mailbox I would be scared myself since I fear if the fox has rabies or not.

I’ve seen a fox or two back behind my apartments in the trees; rabbits are back there too. It’s a lot prettier though where my dad and Diana live. They get a lot of deer, and I’ve talked about seeing roadrunners in their backyard as well.

There are some skunks nearby, but haven't seen or smelled on in the development. That was my worst fear when I had a dog here though..that he would get sprayed by a skunk.

Occasionally someone will post on FB about seeing a fox or bear roaming around the neighborhood but personally I haven't seen one up close. The only wildlife that I see are birds, bunnies and sometimes deer when they wander through our community

If I bear shows up here it is usually in the summer, but I am pretty sure last winter I saw a couple of bear tracks in the snow.

I like Foxes.
I always have
I had a pet fox when I was a little child
My dad found it
All alone.
Hungry and without it's mother and still very young
He handed me it in a blanket
Told me to look after it
I said to him
"You want me to look after a baby fox and my brother and sister. No 9 year old should be so burdened"
He said " it's not my fault your mother isn't in the slightest maternal"
So reluctantly I agreed, and I fed the little baby fox some of the milk my mother had pumped for my almost one year old sister
The fox really thrived
One day my brother pulled it's tail and the fox bit him yay for the fox
I knew the fox would get into trouble so I told my dad I had bit the little sh1t
One day another fix showed up at the house and our fox fkd off with it and never came back
The end
