Don’t want a house

I live in a townhouse and have to say nothing beats that. However, I don’t want to be a homeowner. Anything breaks and it’s on you to repair or replace it, which is expensive. Plus, I don’t want or need many floors. Also, I don’t need or want a back yard. I never go to my back yard here, especially in the summer, because I hate/can’t stand the heat, the humidity, and the scorching sun. And I don’t want to deal with the weeds that grow there. An apartment would be better suited for me. A condo would be best. However, I want to have a washer/dryer in my apartment and not have to go to a laundromat or downstairs to the first floor or basement of a building to wash my clothes. And I’d prefer not to be in a tall building with long hallways. A small building with a few floors and a few apartments in each one would be ideal. I wonder if that kind of a place exists near me. I’m looking to buy not to rent.

Do you mean your mum is buying it for you? Because wouldn't you actually have to have an income to get a mortgage? You just described our apartment for what you want.

No mortgage. You pay for it in full right away. And yes my mom is buying.

@Ineeddentures what does “get missed to our ways” mean? She wants to sell this house where I live and use those funds to buy the apartment.

I found a nice apartment. It even has a balcony. But to do laundry I have to go downstairs. And I’m not a fan of the inside of the building either.

With a condo/apartment you’re still paying monthly costs with “condo fees” or whatever they call them. There’s pros and cons to all sides. I’m coming up on my 37th anniversary in this house, and I love it.

There are HOA fees. A few apartments that I’ve seen have water and gas included in HOA fees and you only pay electric. And there’s also property tax.

I prefer to live in a single story home for rent since if an appliance breaks inside the home, the repair bill would beyond my budget to pay.,

My mom says if you rent you’re throwing money away and it’s better to buy. Unfortunately, I cannot do that but my mother wants to sell the house I’m living in now (her first house she never sold) and buy me an apartment.

We sold our large house in Switzerland and now we live in a nice apartment, a Condo of only 4 apartment. We rent, so we care of nothing. I was so tired to take care of the garden and to call almost every day to have something fixed.

This is exactly the sort of thing our son is looking for too. He doesn't want a yard although he'd like a balcony for the cat.

It fine if you actually want it that way.
