Wow, there’s a lot of Frank Sinatra references coming up. There’s even a Frank Sinatra song on the list. This isn’t it. Oh, yes, he recorded this and had a big hit with it in 1956, but when have you ever known me to be obvious? Here’s today’s song. I’ve Got You Under My Skin - Ella Fitzgerald Ah-ha! You were looking for some Bill Monroe/Kitty Wells thing here, weren’t you?! No, I’m not that weird. Just going with the First Lady of Song. I first heard this song in 1973, in an episode of M*A*S*H. Trapper John (Wayne Rogers) was singing it in the operating room. (It was early in the episode “George,” if you want to look it up.) While the Korean War predated Sinatra’s version of this song by three years or so, the song itself goes back to Cole Porter in 1936, when it was nominated for an Oscar for its appearance in the film Born to Dance. Since then, this song has been recorded over seven hundred times. It was even a hit in the 60s for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I prefer the traditional vocalists for a song like this, and who better than Ella? I’ve Got You Under My Skin Written by Cole Porter Recorded by Ella Fitzgerald From Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook, 1956 Don’t you know little fool you never can win:

A great classic regardless of who sings it.

Well, I wasn’t overly thrilled with the Four Seasons’ version, but it was different and appropriate for the 60s.

700 renditions? That's a lot. Do you know what the record is? That might make another series. lol Whatever, this is certainly a great version.

Supposedly the most-recorded song is the Beatles’ “Yesterday.”
