We were scheduled for an appointment with a social work person from the VA at2:30 today. She had allowed fo road construction and weather possibilities, so she got here at 1:10. Bob and I were outside, enjoying the weather and most of our meeting was out there. We had to go inside to try to connect to the internet (failure) and surprisingly Bruno and Pedro both appeared. Each of them greeted her, rubbed on her legs, and socialized. That translates to telling us she is a good person. She is very obviously an animal lover as well. It seems as if I am automatically approved, but there is still a lot of paperwork for me to read and there will be the HR type paperwork of setting up my pay account, and a background check, etc. before I can start getting paid. It will likely take a month. The pay will be roughly equivalent to what I was making working at school, but I will be paid biweekly instead of monthly. I will not be paying into KPERS (state retirement).and will not have to commute, maintain a car, or pay for gas. I am very satisfied. Being endorsed by the cats goes a long way, also.

I'm glad everything seemed to go well with the evaluation today. Since Pretty became my carer, we've only had one state evaluator we didn't like. She acted like we were taking money for my care straight from her pocket on the spot. After she left, I called their office and told them how she was acting and what she'd said. (She told us anything that had to do with medications, we had to hire a nurse to come to the house and take care of that part of my care. Pretty often gives me shots and helps me sort out my medications.) They sent a guy a few days later who asked us all the same questions and filled out the same paperwork all over again. He said not to worry about what the lady told us. He said since Pretty was trained to give me shots, there was no need for a nurse and it was perfectly okay for Pretty to help me sort out my meds when I couldn't see. You should see an evaluator once a year. Sometimes it will be the same one and sometimes it will be a temp they've hired to help with the workload. Any problems, just call the main office and explain what went wrong. They'll always help you.

Glad everything worked out well. So glad the kitties approved of the social worker as well. They must be bold any stranger coming here, or even people he knows he hasn't seen for awhile, is an automatically signal for Nico to head for the hills.

Glad to hear this is all going well. I think it's very important to feel comfortable with the person you're going to be working with.

Just now
This sounds such a good outcome. How reassuring that the cats approved. That would have meant a lot to me too. It would have been a relief to have them greet her like they did.

Can you start collecting your retirement from the school system - were you there long enough?
