Other people's houses

An interesting thing about house-sitting is seeing how others decorate their homes. The house we’ve just left has this cow-hide rug on the floor. They don’t really appeal to me. Many moons ago, my father tanned some sheepskin hides and I had one by the side of the bed. They were lovely and soft as they had a certain amount of wool left on them. Would you like one of these if you had the choice?

@JudyEv also people these days look down upon these styles as animal cruelty, which was earlier a symbol for valour

@Rimps85 There doesn'tseem to be the same bias against hides as against, say, fur coats or leather clothing.

The sheep skin would be wonderful to step on when it's chilly out.

Those Ugg boots are great too, aren't they, when it's cold.

@wolfgirl569 They were all the rage for a while when I was much younger. They were nice and warm.

Probably not doesn't do anything for me and looks too much like the animal. I do have a cowhide coaster though.

I thought they had pretty much gone out of fashion but I guess if you have one, then you have to do something with it.

I also do not like those cow-hide rug, but I liked the sheepskin hides at the side of the bed. We also had those.

It's pretty but no, I wouldn't want it. Tanned hides will still shed hair and I don't want to do extra cleaning just to have a pretty-to-me rug in the house.

You're right in that they still shed hair.

Doesn't appeal to me either. Soft sheepskin would be another story entirely. I'd choose it.

No, I do not care for those rugs either. My daughter-in-law has one, and every time that she redecorates I wish that she would get a new rug, but when I look I see it there again.

No, I wouldn’t like that at all. However, I did have a beautiful sheepskin rug in our living room apartment when we first got married. To me it’s like buying fur coats. I have more than 16 up north, but only wear them in the yard now.

@JudyEv White. I’m sure it was bleached, because it was pure white. I’m more of a purist when it comes to colors and decorating.

What colour is your rug? Australian sheep were almost all Merino at one stage and white but there are now some much prettier colours and patterns around.

That particular rug in your picture is definitely not my style, especially with all of the rest of what I can see of the room in the picture. Maybe in a rustic cabin it would fit in well.

I thought that too. Either end of the spine had a hiccup in it. There were attachments at some points that kept it mostly secured to the floor.

It’s really not my thing at all ….but, each to their own ! I often think I would love to have a nosey around some of the houses that are for sale, just to see how they have decorated

I like doing that too but we don't often do it now. We used to when we were thinking of building and wanted some ideas.
