Our neighbourhood gossip

April 25, 2026 9:29pm CST
I thought I would start posting about the gossip in our neighbourhood that I hear about. So earlier on a friend of Yvonne's was telling her about how her and her husband had been called racists They are in the process of adopting a child as they cannot have kids of their own Anyway, they turned down the chance to adopt a black child and next thing you know people are calling them racist They are white, they want to adopt a white child, no big deal, it's their preference. Not racist at all I don't blame them, I would most likely have similar thoughts and I am not a racist either It's easy to come on here and say you would adopt a child of a different race so that question won't be asked Do you agree with me that the people who called this young couple racist should hang their heads in shame ?

Sometimes when people see a couple and their son or daughter looks nothing like them, they will make remarks. Some people don’t know how to keep their mouth shut and keep their opinions to themselves.

People do make remarks. I suppose I have to admit I have done that before. I think it can look a bit odd a black child with two white parents and maybe thats why lots of white parents won't adopt black kids

@Ineeddentures You’re right about that. But it can probably be the same if a white couple has Asian kids.

I can understand them wanting a white child

@Ineeddentures If I wanted a child badly it wouldn't matter. But I understand.

It seems to be trending just to call someone a racist because they make a choice like this. I'm not racist, and I would want an adopted child to be the same colour as me

These poor people got lambasted by the pious. But I bet that most of these pious people if they were to adopt a child wouldn't like anyone to be critical of their preferences

I wonder if a black couple refusing a white kid would be called racist

I deon't think they're racist but there can be problems for them having a child of a different race, I mean people like Angela Jolie can take a whole mess of different-race children, but then she has the money and ability to make it all work out, I hope they can get the child of their choice,

People should mind their own business. I understand why they would want to adopt a Caucasian child.

That is their choice, and there is a lot more to raising a child of a different race than people realize. It is okay for that couple to say they are not up to it, and it does not make them racist.

I think it's actually ok for them to simply say they want a white child. That doesn't make them racist either Heather

I think problem is when things become public. That is when people start making assumptions and "judging". It is their choice as to whom to adopt. Their decisions could have been made on factors we might not be able to make out.

They are doing a good thing adopting. Let them adopt the child they want to adopt If they want a white kid they should be able to adopt a white kid ,simple as that.

They are not racist because they want a white child. It's their choice, one of my cousin adopted a children from Colombia. His wife could not have kids and it was easier to adopt children from south America than trying to adopt one in Italy. Crazy!

All I know is this I wouldn't bother about anyone calling me a racist if I said I wouldn't adopt a black kid

That couple might have realized that they weren't equipped to give a Black child the background and culture he needed. Nothing wrong with that. That's not racist.

Exactly. I think culture has a big part to play. And eventually the black kid would most likely want to be with black parents Like asking why his/ her parents are different colours than them

I dont understand why colour issues have to come into every situation. Some people are just too sensitive to the colour thing.

Maybe people just want to have kids the same colour as they are. Nothing wrong with that is there?
