Tattle Tale

I guess I understand this, but maybe you parents can tell me what you would have done. So, after judging the drama yesterday (monologue, duo, and group), the room had cleared out, except for me, the other two judges, and the emcee. A woman, maybe 30, with a baby came up to the emcee, pulled him aside, and started talking to him. I heard bits and pieces, but once she left, the emcee explained her complaint. She had been watching the other parents in the room, and she had sat by one, that were mouthing lines or prompting their kids when their child would forget where they were. She even described the two parents who had done that.
Well, we knew that! We were seated at the front. Anything their child heard, we heard too! All three of us judges assured the emcee we counted the appropriate tenth of a point each time the competitor was prompted.
I have to admit, my first instinct was this mother was a bit of a helicopter mom. The whole room could hear the kids being helped, but she HAD to make sure we knew what they had done needed to be known.
Then, I thought about if it were something to do with Amyra, wouldn’t I have been tempted to point an unfairness out? I don’t think I would have based on the obviousness of the situation. I have the sense to know better. And, of all those parents who saw the same thing, she’s the only one who felt the need to “tattle”.
Would you have made a point to discuss this with someone?

I guess it was just 'getting to her' I don't blame her for mentioning it, but I wouldn't have made a big deal of it..I might have said something like "You're probably aware, but x and x were getting parent help.no biggie, but I hope it got factored in to the score Thanks.!

Yes I think I might have because I like rules and I dislike rule breakers. We've had people cheating at Trivia on cruises before and we point them out to the host. (They get their cell phones out and look up the answers)

Cheating on a cruise is such poor sportsmanship.
I’m always glad when someone finally sees fit to prompt the child because otherwise it’s just trying not to stare at the child while they fruitlessly try to remember the words that just won’t come.

@AmbiePam But the penalty is built right in and is applied. I can see how this works.

No, not as you have described the situation. If it was done secretly and I was the only one who knew, then "maybe".

I wouldn't have if everyone could see and hear it.

I would have the fear of being called a tattle taler myself. I try to stay quiet.

When kids tattle on kids, I always told them it wasn't polite to tattle. (If the kids had the grace to look ashamed, I considered that fair compensation for their tattling.) I'm not sure what I would have said to an adult who tattled...

Sometimes rule breakers go too far so they should be reprimanded,

Umm...what Snowy said would be the preferred way to deal with it, if anyone felt they had to say something.
Being a judge for any type of competition is not as easy as it sounds.
