On Thursday I´ll be cooking garbanzos for Humberto and Dixie.

Cooking garbanzos for Humberto started as a dare. He had told whoever wanted to hear that there was no way he would like garbanzos.
I understood him but he did not listen to my words. He had had to eat the badly cooked garbanzos they served at school and I knew the were horrid because I was sure it was the same recipe they had in my own school.
But my mom´s recipe was different. When my husband was alive I would go alone to eat garbanzos at her house. My husband would not even accept the odor of garbanzos while they were being cooked.
A few years ago, Humberto finally accepted to try my dish. Dixie brought lots of other things to eat just in case although I had told her that I´d have something else to give to Humberto if he could not accept my dish.
That first day, Humberto and Dixie came with Ariel (one of their grandsons) and his girlfriend. There was an additional problem there as Dixie, Ariel and Carolina are vegetarians. I hadn´t counted on that and my in recipe garbanzos are cooked in pork feet´s broth. The meat from the pork (which included a front ham) was also added.
My friends ate all that Dixie brought while watching a football game. Then they came to the dining room where everyone, including the vegetarians ate big servings of my garbanzos. Humberto told me that he had not asked for seconds because of Dixie´s extra food. And Humberto has just finished writing a book about is travels in sailboats and specially wrote that he told the friend that acted as cook in his last trip that he would only eat garbanzos made by me.
The pork is thawing and tomorrow I´ll start soaking the chickpeas. It is one of my favorite dishes.

All of them. Dixie has stomach problems when she eats meat. I have told her that she has been a vegetarian for so long that her beneficial bacteria got tired of waiting and packed their suitcases and went elsewhere.

I love most legumes. I think that the only legume I´m not fond of are peas.

Hummus is one of my favorite appetizers. Today I soaked more garbanzos to cook and make hummus later. But not for today.

@marguicha - I often buy canned garbanzo, already boiled, I have found a very good brand, I keep in the pantry and I can make hummus in no time.
