FREE Pint Glass on Cinco de Mayo

My plans today were to get off early so I could grab a table at one of our favorite local Mexican restaurants to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I live in a university town where the students look for every excuse to go out and drink, including Mexican holidays. Well, no such luck getting in anywhere, even before 2:00pm all the places I passed by had lines of people out the door. Which really sucks, because I was looking forward to a margarita or two. By sheer luck when scrolling through social media, I came across a post from one of our local craft breweries promoting their Cinco de Mayo night. If you spend $12 (each beer costs $6), you get a free limited edition pint glass to keep. So away to the brewery I went, and texted all my peeps to meet me there after work. We all had the minimum two beers to get our free pint glasses, enjoyed each other's company for a few hours, and then everyone went their separate way. Surprisingly, most of them didn't want to keep their souvenir pint glass, so I ended up with a nice collection of glasses to take home. A big win for me! I've been invited out to a local pub tonight for karaoke, so I may or may not be embarrassing myself later. Stay tuned. Any of you celebrating Cinco de Mayo, or doing anything special?

Well, invent a fake holiday tomorrow, make it sound really interesting, and then invite over whoever you want to celebrate!

@Ineeddentures Yes, yes. Come up with a really good one. Something we can spread around the world as a legitimate new holiday!

I wonder if people outside of Florida, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California even care about Cinco de Mayo?

@Juliaacv Haha, that's what I thought. Honestly, I think it's a bigger deal here where I live because I'm in a college town and the students look for any and every excuse to have a party and drink. Probably the Mexicans don't even celebrate this holiday.

Yeah, miraculous what a little scrolling can do. Nice glasses. I've done karaoke. I think I would have to be pretty toasted to get up there and sing..probably wouldn't be a pretty or very musical sight.

I know for a fact that I am horrible at karaoke, and I'd have to be pretty drunk to actually get up there and sing. I decided not to embarrass myself tonight, so I am home now after going out for some ice cream.

I am happy for you that you found a pub without a line up and that you got a nice glass out of the deal. Cinco de Mayo means nothing in Canada, unless it is noted out west where some of the Mexican Mennonites live.

I've got a collection of hundreds of pint glasses from bars, pubs and breweries, most of them I probably stole over the years, but a few I paid for! LOL

I doubt too many Australians have heard of Cinco de Mayo but I might be very mistaken. lol Maybe it's just us oldies that don't know about it. That's great that you now have a new collection of glasses.
