Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system. It affects different people in different ways. For Clare Reilly, the symptoms are mostly physical. Recently, to raise funds for research into the disease, Clare tackled the 1,067-kilometre Munda Biddi trail which stretches from Mundaring near Perth to Western Australia’s most southernmost point, ending in Albany.
The terrain varies from dense forest, soft dunes, granite outcrops and steep mountains. Clare, her husband and father did little research on the track and were not expecting the rutted, sloping tracks that compromise much of the trail. Clare’s power-assisted wheelchair was made in America and, while designed to go off-road, encountered problems with the steep and uneven terrain. Clare is the first person to complete the trail in a wheelchair.
The photo is of a bike-rider who was riding the Munda Biddi. Vince helped him source a new tyre when he ran out of spares. Our property in Donnybrook was very close to the Munda Biddi.

Do you know how much money she raised with this stunt?

That must have been one sturdy wheelchair.

That sounds like a trail for all-terrain tires, honestly. I'm glad she made it to the end, though.

Holy cow that sounds like a difficult trail to navigate.

I'm always amazed at how people can overcome their challenges. I can't even imagine how she did it in a wheelchair but shows that she has determination and accomplished something incredible.
