Off to Sugarfire

If you don't know what Sugarfire is, it's a small, local chain around here that serves up delicious smoky barbecue. It's not the best place in town. I'd give that crown to Beast Craft. But it's still good food and worth the visit, and it's right down the street from the hospital my sister and I have to take mom for her neurology appointment for her dementia. My sister generally handles the medical stuff. She has POA over that. I have POA over financial. But of course. I'm the "money" guy in the family. But when she takes mom to the neurologist, I go along because well...I have questions and concerns too, and my sister and I share the care even if mom lives with her and I only take mom out on Tuesdays and Thursdays and often on the weekends she pals around with my wife and I. We don't always meet for lunch, but I thought it would be a nice excuse to sit and chat a bit before the appointment. So, in a few minutes that's where I will be heading out to. Just have to wash up a bit. I've lazed around a bit longer than usual this morning, and I'm not going to Walmart, so... Any favorite barbecue places in your area you like to visit?

@lovebuglena I hear ya. You mean to tell me there's not a single place in New York to get barbecue? I mean, it's not a New York thing. I get it. But that's hard to believe.

That's new franchise name that I've never heard of before. Glad you like it. As we both now know, dealing with people with dementia can be challenging and exhausting. Good luck at the appointment.

Sugarfire is basically a Missouri chain with 11 total locations, with only two outside Missouri. 1 in Illinois and another in Colorado. I think they might become quite a bit bigger one day. Interesting company.

@LooeyVille Not publicly traded. But if they ever go public, I just might.

It's still a bit chilly here, but it still went well. The food was good. Like I said, not as good as Beast Craft, but it filled the bill.

Enjoy your meal. I enjoy hearing about folks caring for their elderly parents.

Yum, love barbecue. No place special really..they are all good. I do want to go to Mission Barbecue though at some point because the barbecue is supposed to be good, and it supports veterans.

I ate at one of those a couple of years ago! Good stuff! I love Sonny’s BBQ, which is a mostly southeastern chain. The local place (and where I am at the moment) is Mark’s Feed Store. My only knock on Mark’s is they only two have two kinds of BBQ sauce. The last time I was in northeast Ohio I found a local chain called Old Carolina. They were amazing. And they are LOCAL: just one in western Pennsylvania and the rest in northeast Ohio (Cleveland, Canton, Akron). Then I had some BBQ last week in Bloomington (Indiana) at a place called Squealer’s that was out of this world. I don’t like the “big chains” like City BBQ…last time I ate there it was awful. I’m not a big fan of Mission BBQ, either (too much dark meat in their chicken sandwich).
